The Fremoxt Elkhokk and Missouri The interest which the people of this city take in tho work of the association was cleary evidenced by the large number in attendance. Notwithstanding the financial depression of the past year, the work of the association has been carried forward most energetically. Throughout the entire state, less has been accomplished during the past twelve months than for several years proceeding.

Several organizations have been compelled to give up their secretaries and rooms, and in one or two instances were forced to sell their furniture The Concordia Y. M.C. A has been particularly fortunate. Through ths earnest labors of its Secretary McKay and its board of directors, the organization has suffered only to a limited degree from the depression that prevails over the state. While the attendance has shown a small decrease, the gospel meetings have proved highly interesting and have been productive of great good.

The reports of the President Geo. H. Palmer and financial Secretary, W. W. Bowman, showed that the young men were hopeful of accomplishing much during the coming year.

It was true they were to lose their Secretary Geo. McKay, yet this did not mean that the work would cease, only it would be transfered to the different members of the association The association had purchased the building located on its lots at the corner of Seventh and Wash ington street, and proposed by certain changes to transform it into a cosy cottage home. Frank Funston is the name of the nominee for sheriff, and is one of the most successful farmers in the county and has been a resident of Elk township for a good many years, and will add much strength to the ticket in his portion of the county. Last but not least of the four important offices to be tilled this fall, comes register of deeds, with Richard Daniels for nominee, who is a resident of Center township and is well acquainted in the county. There is nothing that can be said against Mr. Daniels for that position.

Then for commissioner of the second district, we have that true and tried republican, Simon Wones of South Lawrence township, a man qualified for the position in every particular. Sam'l Doran was nominated for county surveyor, and Dr. Courtney of Glasco for coroner. There is not a single objectionable man on the ticket, and is perhaps as strong a ticket as was ever placed in the field in this county aud will be elected by a good big majority. Scott and Hostetler. The mere facts that W. C. Scott and C. F.

Hosteller were defeated for re-nomination at the republican convention last week does not signify that these gentlemen have, not preformed their office of public trust faithfully and well nor does it indicate that the republicans of this county were dissatisfied with them or their ofliicial acts. Mr. Scott has only held office in this county two years but during that time his duty has been faithfully preformed as an executive officer and there is not a single flaw that can be found eyen by his enemies.
