The new type is of a clear, neat face, making a great improvement in the looks of that deservedly popular newspaper. Our little four year old Clara has been favored during a large portion of each week day of the past summer with the companionship of a kind, devout old gentleman, whose conversation with her has always been of an elevating nature, and who has endeavored to instill into her mind les sons of wisdom and a realization of her immortal nature.

"While she failed to understand the subject in its full sense," she nevertheless became impressed with the idea that she had somewhere about her a spirit, and in her talks with mamma and papa frequently alluded to it, but in such a vague way as not to reveal to them the particular part of herself which she considered her spirit. It does not apply to the nest congress, which will meet in regular course on the 3d of December nest, but proposes that the Forty-ninth congress, and all subsequent ones, shall meet and organize on the 4th of March next succeeding the election of members, instead of waiting thirteen months before qualifying and entering upon iheir duties, as is now the rule.

The tinie of the naeeting cf the second session is fixed for the first of January. The first advantage of this change would be that congress would always be organized, if toe second session should continue, as would undoubtedly be the case, until the 4th of March. The new congress would organize at once upon the expiration of the term of the old members, as the senate now does when called to meet in special cession. The second and greatest advantage would bo reached and its course changed sooner factory to the people. Under a popular system the will of the citizens should be made effective with less delay.

The tlrno between November j.nd March would be long enough to permit new members to familiarize I themselves, as thoroughly as they can do without actual service upon the piven at McEckron licauc iiamp's. We noticed some of the farmers of this neighborhood husking corn last Wedhesday; but the recent cold snap offered them a rest from this kind of labor. Many of the farmers are taking the adviee of tho Refttblicajt aud nre 6helling their corn before selling the same, thus saving the cobs for fuel. We Jiearn that Hiram Tittering-ton has sold his fine farm, consisting of the swj of section 15 of this township, to Oliver Morgan for 2500, but is to remain on tho same this year. Aba Britton, a former resident of this county and who has spent the past summer in Davis county, this state, is now in this neighlxrhood looking for a farm to rent, and will return to this county with his family the first of March if he can find a place to suit him. Bessette Grandpre make it lively with their sheller, leaving corn cribs empty and large piles of cobs behind them. Our enterprising farmer and stock-raiser, John Barshaw, of Elm Creek, took to Ames station, on Jan. 20th, nineteen" head of fat steers and fifty head of fat hogs and received therefor 2,075. That is the way to sell com, John.

Ed. Chaplin bought them. The cold weather 6till guards the corn-fields and keeps the farmers from gathering the corn. Lots of corn to gather yet. Fauxee.
