MEMBER FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM MRS. MARY WOLFE FITZGERALD Apoplexy caused the death on June 5,1919, of Mrs. Mary Wolfe FitzGerald, aged 95 years. Mary Wolfe was born near Limerick, Ireland, on May 24, 1824. In 1846 she was united in marriage to James S.

FitzGerald at Quebec, Canada. Mr. FitzGerald died in 1871. The deceased moved from New York City about thirty-five years ago, was a member of the Roman Catholic church, and is survived by one son, James F. FitzGerald, of Ottawa.

Two sons and one daughter died in infancy. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. George D. Eckert at the grave in St. John's cemetery at Lawrence.

Cancer caused the death at 5:30 p. m. on June 5 of Mrs. Ella May Payne, aged 61, at her home at Pomona, Kansas, following an illness of fifteen months. Ella May Hinton was born November 3, 1858, in Rushville, Indiana.

On March 18, 1895, she was united in marriage to W. A. Payne at Decatur, Ill.nios. They moved to Pomona thirteen years ago from Clarence, Mo. The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Rebecca Lodge and is survived by her husband, one son, William Carl, and one daughter, Myrtle Sara Payne, both of Pomona.

Another son, Roy Arlize, passed away on January 18, 1907. The funeral service was ducted from the Presbyterian church at Pomona at 2 p. m. on June 8, with Rev. George Scarr in charge.

213 Main Street Ottawa, Kansas Lorene Mackey, 13 years old, was instantly killed by a bolt of lightning near Holliday, Kansas, Sunday afternoon. Florence Radcliff, 16 years old, who was with her, was unconscious for half an hour. The two girls, who live in Holliday, had been gathering strawberries a mile west of that place. Seeing the storm approaching shortly before five o'clock, they hurried home. They were in the midst of a ten-acre stretch of open country west of town when the bolt struck them.

A motor car party found them some time later and took them to Holliday. Florence Radcliff, when she recovered consciousness, said it seemed as though someone struck her on the head with a hammer. She said there was no one near them when the lightning struck. There was a deep gash on the Mackey girl's head where the bolt struck. Dr.

Fred Candler of Bonner Springs was called and succeeded in reviving Miss Radcliff, but Miss Mackey was dead when found. Lorene Mackey was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. William Mackey of Holliday. Mr.

Mackey is a track foreman for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Florence Radcliff is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto City Star. JAMES SHELDON SHRIMP.

LIN. James Eldon, the four months old infant son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T.

Shrimplin, 706 East Logan street, passed away at 7:10 a. m. on June 12, after an illness of two days. James Eldon was born here on February 4 of this year. He is survived by his parents and one brother, Eugene Norwood, two years old.

The body is be shipped tonight at 8:30 to Nevada, where it will be buried. BERNARDINO SANTIBANEY. An abscess on the liver was the cause of the death at 7 a. m. on June 9 of Bernardino Santibaney, aged 25 years, a Mexican Santa Fe track laborer.

Death occurred at the Santa Fe hospital in North Ottawa. Rev. Thaddeus Barrtra of the Catholic church conducted the funeral service at the grave in Mt. Calvery cemetery at 4 p. m.

on June 9th. BACK TO TOPEKA. Mrs. Rosa Maze, who has been visiting here for about two weeks with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.

F. S. Lucas, of 724 South Elm street, returned to her home last Monday evening. Before leaving Ottawa she received word that her son who had been in France with the A. E.

F. had returned to the states and had been discharged, expecting to get home Monday evening. She immediately decided to return to Topeka. The Eastern Kansas Group is composed of the churches of this denomination at Topeka, Lawrence and Ottawa. Rev. E. R. Shook, the local pastor, is chairman of the Group, Rev.

H. A. Dunlap of Lawrence, vice president, and Miss Ruth Williams of secretary and treasurer. These special meetings are held once every three months, the last one having been held in Lawrence last March. The meetings are open to the public.

The United States Civil Service Commission has announced examination for the County of Franklin, Kansas, to be held at Ottawa on July 12, 1919, to fill the position of rural carrier at Rantoul and vacancies that may later occur on rural routes from other postoffices in the above-mentioned county. The examination will be open only to citizens who are actually domiciled in the territory of a postoffice in the county and who meet the other requirements set forth in Form No.

1977. This form and application blanks may be obtained from the offices mentioned above or from the United State Civil Service Commission at Washington, D. C. Applications should be forwarded to the Commission at Washington at the earliest practicable date. The vacancy for which this examination is announced is caused by the enlistment of the carrier formerly employed on the route.

Upon his honorable discharge from the military vice of the Government he will be entitled to reinstatement to his former position as carrier on this route in accordance with the statute approved July 28, 1916, which is as follows: "Any postal employee who has entered the military service of the United States or who shall hereafter enter it shall, upon being honorably discharged therefrom, be permitted to resume his position in the postal department which he left to enter such service." However, any person appointed to this position may, in the Ottawa Laundry JOHN Z. CLARK, Proprietor 120-122 W. Second discretion of the Post Office Department, be assigned to other parts of the postal service; or transferred to other branches of the classified service for which he is eligible.
