now. Dr. C. R. Wildes, veterinary surgeon, of Ellsworth, will be at Pokorny's drug store on Monday of each week.

H. A. Stolten berg and Adolph Dolecek left Monday for Kansas City, to attend an implement dealers' meetiug. Governor Hoch's message to the Legislature will be found in this issue. It should be read by every one.

The lEmbroidery club had a very pleasant meeting last Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. P. Thomas. J. Hanabery broke a small bone in his left hand last week, while engaged in a friendly tus sle in the Schurman Cafe.

J. H. Perry, who is running a shooting gallery here, was down to Lyons the first of the week to yisit his family. Dr. H.

Z. Hissem was over from Ellsworth Monday evening, to consult with Dr. Pletnitz in the relapse of fl. Siemsen's child. The city council has ordered a gasoline lamp for street lighting.

In case it proves satisfactory the council will buy a number of them. Charles Calvert has been here visiting his mother, Mrs. D. A. Calvert and other relatives.

He is engaged in the grain business at Ellis. Mr. Painter, an inspector of the Continental Insurance of which Geo. W. Richter is the local agent, was in Holyrood, Tuesday.

With the holidays in the past, politics dead and the wheat crop hidden by several inches of snow there is not much to talk about these days. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Siemsen's baby suffered a relapse the first of the week and was in a very dangerous condition. The little one is now improving.

Schwerdtfeger returned Saturday from a visit with his parents, in Washington county. A. J. Pokorny Jrad to go home Monday on account of ill ness. He was able to be at the store Tuesday. By the way, what pleasure can a bachelor find in going home sick? The dance given by the C.

Accordin to this report, the mail route between here and ilson will be discontinued and the carrier on Bushton route 2 will bring the mail from that place. This would give better satisfaction in getting eastern mail more promptly and more certain. Wilson is twenty mils from Holyrood, while Bushton is less than six miles.

Rollin Smith Wednesday, January 11th, at thehome of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Smith of Barton county, occurred the marriage of their daughter.

Misb Addie and Mr. William Rollins, Rev. William Scott of Claflin, officiating, The bride is well Known in this community as a splendid young women. The groom is a Santa Fe bridge contractor and has been in New Mexico for some time. The climate of that state doesn't agree with his health and the newly wedded couple ex pect to make their home at Hut chinson.

The Banner extends congratulations and best wishes Mr. and Mrs. Rollins. C. Wildes, veterinary sur geon, of Ellsworth, will visit Holy rood on Monday of each week and will have his office at A.

J. Pokorny's drug store. Dr. Wildes is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary college, Ontario, Canada and not a mere "horse a graduate veterinary surgeon. He located at Ellsworth some months ago ana by skillful and succpssful work has built up a large practicrf, which has necessitated the opening of a hosiptal.

The owners of horses will undoubtedly appreciate this opportunity to obtain skilled service in case of sickness among their horses. W. B. Crook has been appointed as watch inspector and repairer for the M. M.

branch and the Holyrood branchof the Santa Pe railway. An engineer or conductor is required to have his watch inspectad each week and if it does not keep nearly perfect time the watch is left with a company watchmaker who repairs and tests it thoroughly; it is then sent to the general inspector who also tests it and returns it to the owner. All watches used by engineers and conductors running on the M. branch will be sent to Mr.Crook for repairs, as will alsc those on the Holyrood branch. We re pleased that Mr.

Pick, of Racine, Wisconsin, has been here in the interest of the "Slavie" a Bohemian news paper published there. He is an old acquaintance of A.

J. and Charles Pokorny. H. Steinbeck of Sylvan Grove, Jos Homolkaand Anton Matoush of this place, shipped a car load of cattle to Kansas City Tuesday. H.

RutleJge shipped a car to Little River the same day. Mrs, Lydia A. Thomas of Ellsworth, and Mrs. Pay W. Thomas of this city, were in Wichita last week, visiting thelatter's parents, Mr.

William Ehrhorn. Our people had to tread care fully, Wednesday morning owing to the icy conditions of the side walks and a number lost their dignity and tested the staying quality of the bricks they were walking on. Dr. Mayor, Coroner, was the only new Ellsworth county of ficial to take office last week. W.

E. Hasy, county superintend ent-elect does not assume his duties until May. After a week of zero and below zero weather, it moderated Tuesday, Wednesday morning a drizzling rain fell, but the sky cleared before noon. The snow is melting quite rapidly. A Very Clone Call.

The Banner office is now more like a fairy home than an old print shop. Aaron Blue and son, William, of Barton county, were in town Saturday and came to the Banner office to sheer the editor in a substantial wpy.

Mr. Blue's brothers, one at La Crosse and the other in Nebraska, are regular readers of this paper by his kindness. Jos. Dressier, who returned lastweek from Oklahoma; says that J. W.

Eret, formerly of Holy-rood, is proprietor of a first class, three-chair barber shop at Prague and is well pleased with his new location. Mr. met a number of other former Holyrood people, among whom was Prank Sekavec, who residod here ten years ago. He is now at Shawnee. Domestic Troubles.
