Petition of J. Francis was approved, LEGAL NOTICE. and road ordered opened without view till adjoining property owners relinquish To Maria of parts unknown: City Clerk Paul Casley met with an accident that put one of his eyes in morning, on the 4th. It seems that one James Shook became incensed at remarks made by and between Casley and Mr. Allison, on the street, in which Shook took a hand and shook Paul up right lively.

Shook was then honk up by the court of some ducats to pay a fine. City Marshal W. II. Langford met with quite a warm reception at Leav enworth, on the 4th, while the democratic state convention was in session. He went down to that city in search of a fellow he was after, and without sufficient provocation, as he relates pounced upon by some anti-Martin timgs from Wyandotte, simply because they thought he was in favor of Martin's nomination.

There were four of them who met him in a hall of the hotel and accosted him and asked how stood on Martin, and he had no sooner replied that he thought Martin to be a good man who had done his duty as a jndue, than one of them struck out from the shoulder and hit him in the face, and they all pitched in, and in the struggle went through one of the bedroom doors and crowded L. up in a corner, when he let tly and floored two of them and severely punished the other two before help arrived. It was i perilous situation for Bill, for the villains were loaded up with whiskey and in a frenzy of madness. Bill carries around a black eye and badly jammed fist. It was lucky for all concerned that the affray did not wind up with pistols and dirks, which it would ver lkely have done had Langford been or either of his opponents.

That's pretty nearly the shot-gun policy, isn't it Bill Von are hereby notified that you have lieei ing damages, in an action begun in the District Court o( Mitiihell County, liansns, on the 13th day of Adjourned till following morning, at 9 Mav, A. u. 1SS. in wliicb action J. (J.

He was the son of a widow mother and the pride of his mother's heart as he was also a general favorite with his acquaintances. Hh went to the river in company with other young men, to bathe, and getting into water beyond his depth, notknow-Ing how to swim, met with a sudden and terrifying death, before he could he rescued by his companions.

A once the boys commenced diving to try and recover the body, Frank Hecock being the successful one who brought the corpse to the surface. Everything was done to resuscitate him, but without avail, and lie was borne to the home of his mother, lifeless, from whom but a short time previously he had gone in the bloom of health and glorious young manhood. The sad duty of informing the poor mother devolved upon Dr. II. E.

Pratt, who did so with all the tenderness he could command which, how-over broke down in the presence of that awffll maternal grief. The deceased was interred on Sunday, in the City Cemetery, Rev. Branch officiating in the religious ceremony, his companions of the Y. M. C.
