For twrenty years we, the colored propie, have stood by the republican partyhave rallied to support them in every time of need. They use us as a tool and do everything they can to make us believe that they are interested in our welfare, and at the same time they only want us to keep placing them in office.

Why can they not divide with us and show us they ar.e willing to help us to rise to that standpoint which tltey occupy to-day. It must be understood that the colored people of Cherokee county have aroused to a sense of their duty. They intend to show the republican party that they don't belong to them any longer, but intend to enter the field and make an independent fight. Some of the leading republicans have already said" they can do without our votes. Well, let us see what virtue there is in coming out with a full ticket of our own, selecting such men from each party as may in our judgment seems to be the best men.

Then let us as a body of colored men turn out throughout the county on election day and make our mark. By making such efforts we will try the faith of the many so called friends of the colored voters. E.TIoggiss. W. Bamskt. The Principals of the Greenback Party are Plight- Mr. Editor. Before you get this I suppose the Republicans will have" made their ticket up and will be "dressing up" for action, ready for a sound grubbing I presume.

Outside, and apart from myself, I claim we have a ticket that may be equaled but can not be excelled in this county, and one that can sweep up all opposition in November. Now, what is the duty of the hour, fellow Greenbackers? Are we to sit around and count on the vote of previous years and say, "Such-and-such a township is solid anyhow," and "Such-and-such a township is increasing its Greenback vote so much per cent, every year that we may safely count on so many from it this year," and so on. Just as if Greenback votes can be made by a patent machine! No, no! Greenbackers and lovers of justice and we have-to be up and doing, we have got to show the voters that the principles of the Greenback' party are right; that is to their interest to support the nominees of the party, for they are put forward by the party as their choice and as fit and proper persons to fill ssiid offices. Now, as we can't all work alike in this matter some have oratorical powers winch others have.not and some have "influences" where others have not therefore I presume it will be in order for each member of the party to work wherever, whenever and however he can for the triumph of our party this fall. as a candidate before the people for the position of register of deeds, have not much to say why I sh uld be elected.

'Tis true I have been a Greenbacker since the days of Peter Cooper, as the saying is. I have the first Greenback name to scratch since then. I have always stood up and done what I could for the party. I am. a firm believer in the truths and eternal principles of the.

Greenback party. 1 often wonder why it is. that so many thousands of the voters of this country stay away and rivet still closer the chains of bondage on them by voting right along with the monopolists. Do they ever stop to consider the situation? I am afraid they never do, or if they do they must, like the tories of the revolution, conclude its no use trying to cope with the enemy. God, in His mercy, enlighten them! I can see in the organization of the Greenback party, a revolution far more permanent and than any the world has ever seen or known, forced by the sword or horrors of war.

Where is the. sister, wife or who has ever heard the cry "To arms!" who will not hall such a revolution as the greatest benefactor of any age, and a benediction of peace and good will to mm." The difference of opinions, religiously and otherwise, should not retard or impede our progress, for each respecting the rights of others makes dearer the cause of liberty and lighten the star of hope that lights our pathway onward and upward from the foothills of the present, whera civilization is but half-grown, to the highest mountain top where a more enlightened manhood and womanhood shall legislate laws far more divine, and a true republic protect the weak from the ungust invasions of the strong, and thus prove to a doubting world that our nation is and ever shall be "tie borne of the brave and the land of the free." Fellow citizens, the time has come through that predetermined and irresistible law of evolution; civilization has reached the plane of intellectual development that the most humble beinr begins to feel the germs of liberty springing into actual life, which enables each and all to realize the fact that the' have rights which no laws made by man shall longer deprive them of. Though to reach to this plane has cost the human race rivers of blood and mountains of murdeied men; though the neglected graves of martyrs mark each step upward; though the trembling limbs of age and the shackled forms of brave men have languished and died in loathsome prison cells; though the prayers and cries of homeless and starving children have died unanswered, though the tears of wives and mothers have worn deep furrows in pallid cheeks and baptized in bitter anguish the shroudless and coffinless dead still that unconquerable spirit of liberty has survived the ruin and desolation of nations and to-day permeates the heart of every true reformer in every land and cliuv. That spirit can never be vanquished by cannon, shell or bayonet, but will live on and on, moulding and cementing the great popular heart "in its love for human rights so long as a foot of a slave presses the soil in any part of the known world. Hoping the "light" of the Greenback doctrine may soon shine into every nook and corner of the globe is the prayer of Pijnu Rev.

Simmons hied out of bed before Bent could tell Iiim that Slade and Mitchell were going to fight south of Baxter at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning. It is said that Simmons was terribly excited over the matter which was made piain when he exclaimed in thundering tones, "goody goody by dogirie." After repeated yells of this kind, he hurriedly commenced dressing himself by getting his coat on his legs and pants on his arnn and they were wrong side out, and then walked up to a pitchei thinking it was the mirror and commenced tyi.ig his sock around his neck for a neck tie. During all this time the thoughts of a two column local, headed Slade" and Mitchel fight, when all these things were chasing one another throughout his gigantic mind, like the midnight cats ruuning through a coal house, a thought, came over his mind that there was no eopy for the "kid" which bursted the whole thing. It is said that Sim was as mad as a wet hen when he found out that he could not go to see the great prize light and pulled his mustache out by the roots-Too bad, too bad. Farmers and Freighters.
