THE NUTTING TRACEDY. Daniel Nutting, who resides three miles southwest of Ames, died very suddenly at 5 o'clock on Sunday September 18, 1835. Mr. Nutting was about 65 years old and engaged in farming as he had a good farm of his own. He was taken violently ill immediately after eating breakfast of the day he died.

Dr. P. C. Bourgeois was sent for and done everything la his power for the doomed man, but human skill proved of no avail. The dead man was burled one mile south of the Bosworth farm.

The suddenness of the deceased's sickness and death aroused public suspicion that there mitrht have been foul play, and accordingly it was determined to exhume the body and hold a post mortem examination upon the remains. MeFarian- of this place as counsel for Mrs. Anna Nutting, the dead man's wife. The post mortem was conducted by Dr. Bourgeois of Ames and Dr. T.

E. Rains of Concordia. The proper parties repaired to the cemetery where the body was disinterred and fully Identified as the deceased. Upon opening the casket the body was found in a horrible condition, the face swollen and perfectly black, the ayes bursting from their sockets, the tongue three times former size hanging from his mouth, while the face was covered with froth, and the entire body In a horrible decaying condition. The coroner, jury and physicians did their duty faithfully, and the stomach and contents were taken to Ames where the jury and coroner con-, ducted a rigid -examination -In to this mysterious death.
