Two Men Mortally Wonndad In right at Owonsboro, Ky. Owensbobo, Nov. 19. A bloody battle was fought here yesterday, in which John Ashby, an ex-policeman, and Jack Heverin, a grocer and saloonist, were mortally wounded and a policeman wounded. Heverin had told Ashby and his gang to stop dancing in his place on Sunday.

They left' and frightened some women in a disreputable house by a sham fight. One of the women ran to Heverin's with the story that a man was cut to pieces. Eugene Heverin heard them laughing and assured her that the men were only shamming. Just then Ashby stepped from behind a tree and attacked Heverin with a club. Heverin ran into the house and he and his brother appealed to two policemen who appeared for protection.

When Ashby came up they asked him what he wanted. Ashby drew a revolver and fired at Jack Heverin. Immediately seven pistols were drawn and a perfect fusilade followed. Nineteen shots were fired' Ashby fell with a ball in his right breast and is now dying, Jack Heverin fell with bullet in his left breast, one in the left, arm and one fing-er was shot off. He cannot live.

Officer Stuart received a ball in his leg. All parties implicated, of which there are about eleven, are of prominent families. 1 the same Yonkeri Gazette. i Jfr. AU G.

Kansas City, Ma, Nov. 14.

Dispatches from Salina and Ellsworth, tell of a daylight bank robbery at Sylvan Grove, a little town on a branch of the Union Pacific road near Hutchinson, and forty miles from Salina, that is without parallel for boldness and unique According to the Salina story, just at noon, and while very few people were on the street, three men with masked faces and armed with Winchesters, rode rapidly up the main street and halted in front of the City bank. All dismounted, and while one of the men went inside the other two remained guard. Covering the cashier, who was alone in the bank, the robber demanded what money there was and said he wanted it quick. The money came forthwith and the bandit ran out into the street and joined his comrades. While in the act of mounting the robbers were fired upon by the cashier.

One of the bullets lodged in the back of the nearest outlaw. Although badly wounded he managed to mount and all three rode rapidly away. Loss of blood soon exhausted the wounded man, and after riding a mile he fell to the ground in a dying condition. The other two men realizing that exposure would follow if the wounded member of the. gang was captured, concluded to make short work of him, and both fired a bullet into his body, killing him instantly.

Leaving him in the road where he had fallen they rode rapidly away. The amount of the money taken was $1,500, and was all recovered, it being taken from the dead bandit, who has been identified as a farm hand named McKee, who has relatives living at Beloit and St. Joseph. Robert Fitzsimmons knocked out and killed sparring partner, last night in the first round of hia usual exhibition, which closes the program of his vaudeville 6how. Jacobs' theater was crowded to witness the entertainment, and the audience departed for their homes little knowing that Riordan was still unconscious. The blow was a right-hander and caught RiOrdan squarely on the chin. Be did not fall to the floor from the force of the blow, but sank slowly until he measured his length on the stage. The accident occurred at 10:30 o'clock and two physicians worked over him with applications of electricity for two hours and a half, without being, able to restore him to consciousness.

At 12:30 o'clock he was removed from the theater to the Hotel Candee. It was stated by Manager Glori that Riordan had been drinking hard all day and that he was intoxicated when he came on the stage for the sefcto. Immediately after the Riordan incident James Dunfee, a local sparrer, put on the gloyes for a two round set-to with Fitzsimmons, In the second round Dunfee landed a right hander on Fitz's jaw, securing a clear knockdown, the first, Fitz declares, he was ever given. He was so dazed when he regained his feet that he could not see Dunfee's hand when it was extended at the call of time. Fitzsimmons was arrested when the physicians gave up hope of saving Riordan's life.

Riordan died at 3:15 o'clock this morning. 1 Fitzsimmons nut on Ball. Syracuse, N. Nov. 19.

Barnes sued for the recovery of $184 lost at the East Side race track during October. When the case was tried he produced losing tickets representing the amount he claimed to have lost, and succeeded in convincing the judge of the truth of his statement Judge Wyatt said that his decision in favor of Barnes was strictly in compliance with the state statute governing such cases, which defined clearly that a person, upon proving that he had lost an amount equal to or more than 910 upon any gambling device whatever, could obtain the full amount lost from the parties receiving the same and if not from them from the lessees or owners of the property upon which such- games were conducted. A similar case has been compromised by the track people, but this will be carried up Confirmation of the decision will end racing across country mailed free upon application. Train No. 2, south-bound, on the Missouri, Kansas and Texas road was held up and robbed at 10 o'clock last night at a little siding named Blackstone, five miles north of Muskogee. There were fifteen men in the gang, all unmasked. The switch was thrown and the train run on to a track on which there were several box-cars. An attempt was made to enter the express car, but it was unsuccessful.

The robbers finding themselves foiled in this, commenced robbing the passengers, who up to this time had been merely kept under guard by men stationed at either door of each coach. About $260 in money and eight gold watches were secured. The robbers then withdrew. One of the train crew claims to have recognized Bill Cook as one of the bandits. The fact that more money was not tecured lay in the fact tba while the robbers were endeavoring to get intojthe.

19. Corrected and complete returns from all the counties in the state show that votes were cast at the election in Kansas, which is 15,000 more than the estimate of either political party. Some of the counties show a heavy increase of votes over two years ago, but tbe total vote of 1893 was 25,000 larger than for 1894. Taking the vote for governor as a basis, the parties were divided in Kansas thla year as follows: Republicans, Democrat, Prohibition, 5,465. The Republican vots la within 10,000 of that cast for Smith for governor two years ago.

The prohibition vote shows a slight increase this year. As Governor Lewelling ran ahead of his ticket this year, the Republican pluralities on other candidates than governor will be greater than is indicated in the above figures. James A. Troutman, for lieutenant governor, and George E. Cole, for auditor, will lead the Republican ticket.

On the final returns from all legislative districts it is shown that the Republicans elected 93 members, the Populists 32 and Democrats 1, which gives the Republicans a majority of 59 in the house. The hold over senate stands 25 Populists and 15 Republicans, leaving a Republican majority of 49 on joint ballot. MANY PEOPLE PERISH. Mibb SMiAmArhnrn. who in onlv COLCHESTER KITBBKR CO.
