DO NOT DELAY Belland Kadeau, sister to Mrs. Be dard and our townsman Mr. bills, dry goods bills, his board bills Nor is this all. He took a $50.00 organ due bill from this office which did not belong to him, after he 'sold out. Xor is this all; After agreeing to say nothing about the difference between them Concordia, spent a few days' in the city this week.

L. Savoie, Proprietor TRIMMINGS. Also the favorite bustle, Star mmhu sii dress shield and Corsets.

We carry Chenille Aracenes, wash, knitting, filling, embroidery sika and felts, Chenille art appliques and tell malicious lies about us and the paper, Clarence taking the pains to go to Clay Center to spin his string of lies to two of the proprietors of newsprpers at that place and also told them they made us pay a big sum for the office. Neither is tlis all; he even wrote a- letter of false statements to the Mo. 1. Railroad Company to obtain pass on account of this paper after he had sold all interest in it, besides sending obsene literature through the mail, which is no small offense. These are the king of hair pins that have been howling forgery andtel-ling lies about us, and right here we wish to say that if we have committed forgery as these gentlemen have repeatedly stated, it is high time they were putting us Lthrough, or forever close their viperous" mouths.

Thank God we never stole anything or falsified about others in trying to obtain a replevin bond. We have put up with the proceedings of this low principled outfit just about long enough without returning the compliment. A severe hail storm prevailed in this vicinity Thursday. Some of the chunks of ice were as large as a hens egg. it might be well to add that the feller that threw the ice balls took aim at window glasses, at least we have heard considerable complaint about window" glass being Mrs.

Our Libel Suit at Clay Center. Not Guilty What we said were facts, not Lies. Another foolish debt for the Tax-payers to pay. In justice to ourself and family while publishing The Cliftox Xews "we published the following article. What we mean by saying we published it in justice to ourself and family is this: The parties mentioned in the article had circulated reports which was a disgrace to us both in the business and social circle of Clifton.

After treating them with silent content for about two months we found that while this rule would work well in some cases, it failed in ours. We finally concluded to tell our readers the facts in the case, and at the same time give a partial pedigree of the parties who had been misrepresenting matters conseniing our bus iness and personal affairs so our readers could judge for themselves as to which of our statements were true; but what was the result. Why, the Eu-neys had us arrested for libel immediately after the paper was published containing thb article. We were arraigned before Esuire Banner at Vining who bound us over to the district court, but had it not been that one of our best witnesses was not present, this would not have been done. As this is a matter that will not interest our readers but very little we will make a long story short by submitting you the article and saying its contents were proven by the defense.

I is as follows: The renewal of Runey 's lies about the junior member of the firm of Padgett Brothers necessitates an explanation. We have endured them as long as our natural make up was calculated and as we have been accused of everything mean known to civilization by old man Runey and his son Clarence, who were not content with telling their lies, but furnished them to our worthy contemporary (which is at all times ready to circulate anything tlnough its columns to our detriment) that they might become known far and near, we feel that in justice to ouself and family the public should have our side of the story. We have on many occasions felt the effect of their falsehoods in business and social circles, our business has been injured ami many of our friends have gone back on us on account of such false reports; we have been pointed out by this clique as a criminal, as an irresponsible and dis-donest man, as broken up and unable to pay our debts and a great many other items we might mention. We are therefore compelled, we say. to give the facts about the whole affair, and we stand ready to prove every assertion herein contained.

After we had been engaged in business with Runeys about 3 or 4 months both members of the firm became dissatisfied and we made them an offer to either give or take $700 for onegalf interest, but Runey would do neither; but demanded an exorbitant price for his half Interest and by threats of prosecution for what he and his attorney called forgery (but after consulting an attorney whose advice could be relied on we learned there was no crime committed, but our information was obtained too late; we had already been compelled to sign the mortgage) and threatning to close the office. We were aware of the fact that if either of these threats were carried out it would damage us to the extent of $500.00. By these means the three Rates Reasonbble and accommmo- tions First-Class.
