Loaxs negotiated. Pastoral Letter. The Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Clyde, propose to at an early day, a church building on their vacant lot. Your cordial sympathy and prompt material aid are much needed in this Christian enterprise. A line church property with the apse toward Main street, with organ chamber and chancel, would make a desirable acquisition to your beautiful city, and would be for the glory of our Holy Father.

Monej' and kind words from members, friends, and business men of this city and country, shall beappreciated and names public thanks rendered. Very Respectfully, R. J. Walker. Afler "he Battle.

All quiet along the Potomac to-ulgnt. No sound save the rush of the river: Peck haa got into the office at last, And Beatty's off duty forever. The battle has been fought, and won and lost. Won by the Peck men and lost by the other men. The old proverb says, "That all is fair in love and war," we will add politics to the other two and make a trio of them.

It is invariably the custom of the friends of defeated candidates after an election, to cry fraud and corruption and trump up all kinds of stories about their opponents. While there may have been some crookedness in connection with this post-office election, we do not believe a tithe of what we hear about the succeseful candidate. Mr.Peck will undoubtedly male a good enough postmaster, at least we are willing that he should try before- condemning him. The Democrat never convicts a man, without first giving him a fair and honest trial, if he is then found guilty he must suffer the consequences. We have had lights and squablcs enough over this matter to tear to pieces any community, "A house divided against itself cannot stand." Let us let bygones be by-gones and pitch in and work harmoniously for the up-build Deeds, Mortgages uiuKuuiunuuui), and all legal papers prepared.
