W. MASTINDALK, L. EIPPE0, Dealer In ROW DREAMS ARBs CAUS ED. In order to prove that almost any dreaol can, with tolerable certainty, be excited by tpeoial classes of stimulants, W. Maury caused a series ot experiments be performed on himself when asleep, which afforded veryssrtis fac'sry results.

First experiment He cauaed himself to be tickled with a feaths er, on tbe lips and on the inside of the nostrils. He dreamed that he was euljecte-1 to a horrible punishment A mask of pitch was applied to his face, and then roughly torn off, tak-Dg-'witb it the skin of bis lips, cote and faor. Second experimetit A pair cf tweezers was held at a little distance from his ear, end struck with a pair of scissors. He dreamed that be heard the ringing of bells. This was soon converted into tbe tocsin, and this suggested the days of June, 1848.

Third experiment A bottle of eau de cologne was held to his nose. He dreamed that he was in a p( rfumer's sboo. This excited visions of the East; and be dreamed tbat he was in CarJ? in the shop of jean Maria Farina. Many surprising adventures occurred him there, tbe details of which were forgotten. experiment A burcing lucifer match was held close to his He dreamed ti- a be was at sea h.

wind was blowing in through the windows,) and that the magazines in the veessl blew up. F.fth f-xperiment--IJe wis el'ghtly pinched on tbe bck of the neck. Ha dreamed that a blister was applied And this recalled the recollection of a physician that had treated him in his infancy. Sixth experiment A piece of red tot iron was held close enough to him to communicate a slight sensation of heat. He dreamed tbat robbers had got into bouse, and were forcing the iorxatee, by putting their feet to the fire, to reveal wbete the money was The idea of the rob" ber suggested tbat of Madame d' Abrantes, who, he supposed, had taken bim for her secretary, and in whose memoirs he had ie.id some of bindits.

Seventh expermsnt Tbe par was proncuscei in bis ef.r. He understood noihing, and awoke with tbe recollection of a very vague dream. The word maman was next used many times. He dreamed of different subject, but henrd a sound like tbe bumming of berB Several days after, the experiment was repeated with the words Azor, Castor, Ijionore On awakening he recollected tbat he had heard the two last words, and had attributed them to one of tbe per-ddb who bad with him in his dream Eighth experiment A drop of water was allowed to fall oa his forehead. He dreamed that he was in Italy; that he wss very wrm, and tbat be was drinking the wine of Or vie to.

Ninth experiment A light, surrounded by a piece of red paper, was repeatedly placed before his eyrs. He dreamed of a tem-pet and lightning, which suggested tha remembrance of a eorm Fancy. Staple and Housekeeping Hardware. Children's Carriages. Lime.

Having fir ft ascertained the direction in, and the means by which his object is to be reached, let him put his whole energies to the work, and with urjfltpgirjg industry press forward. Tne young man who, instead of rising at five sleeps till seven or eight, and who pends his evenings on the corners, or in the Companionship of those who are wanting in laudi-ble, rarely ever win a position of honor cr achieves a reputation above that enj jed bf the common masses.

In a Country like ours, where the avenues of honor and wealth are open alike to all, there is no reasonable excuse that can be offered for a man's failure to achieve one ot the other or both. IU health or extraordinary misfortune may keep him down, but these are the exceptions that establish the rule. Few men know of bow much they are capable until they have 6rst thoroughly tested their capabilities.
