Parties, who purpose attending the select department during the coming year, will inform us of it previous to Aug. 14th, as that department will be discontinued, unless sufficient patronage is guaranteed.

The second annual re-union of the Tennessee colony, will be held at the Tennessee school house in the south part of Dickinson county, near Dillon postofflce, on the first Saturday in September will march to the grove near by. All Tennesseeans in this and adjoining counties are invited to meet Office In Augustine's room, Cedar St. Fifth street, east of Buckeye avenue. J. Augustine has recently put up a wind pump at his residence on Broadway.

The second class city arrangement evidently has fallen through. The tax payers are glad to see it prove a failure. A scarcity of bricklayers is recorded at Chicago. Many persons there have been deterred from building on that account. Game season opened up on Monday with a number of game parties, who report prairie chickens scarce, but rabbits are plenty.

A wagon load of watermelons was cleaned out in a short time Tuesday forenoon. They were large and brought very good prices. Let there be a good atteudence at the court room on Saturday afternoon, to make the necessary arrangement for the Pennsylvania re-union. Candidates are now busy shaking hands risers. Workmen commenced on the brick work of W.

It. Dryer's house, on Mulberry street, on Wednesday morning. E. Latshaw Casgrain's elevator at Russell, Kansas, was burned yesterday morning. Loss, $7,500 on grain and building.

M. P. Jolley and Elder Clark have announced themselves as candidates for the office of County Clerk, made vacant by the death of T. J. Crozier, Esq.

The Presbyterian congregation, at Wilson, has got into a muddle, over the refusal of the trustees to allow a corpse to be taken into the church. The proposed amendments are being published in one paper, at least, in each county. Every one will have a splendid chance to commit them to memory.

A geranium stalk is on exhibition in Northcraf t's drug store that is seven feet tall. It is a most beautiful plant and presents a perfect picture of health. Picnicers and others should take warning that the sportive sand-bur is awaiting a chance to take some person unawares. The sand-bur is a small creature, but a most powerful one. The county teachers have all dispersed to their respective districts to look after their school fences.

Doubtless some will need a great deal of attention, while others are always in good trim. Considerable dissatisfaction is expressed at the poor accomodations which Brookville affords to the trains stopping there for meals. It is thought that Abilene will again be the meal station in a short time, as its accommodations for such cannot be better. A broken or badly injured limb. A few days ago Edward Blocker and son, of Chcever township, left Kansas with bag and baggage, for their old lwme in Adams county, Penna. They all declare that they will be in attendance, and help to swell the immense throng from that State. Let every one attend the meeting to arrange for such a re-union, also. In the court house, Saturday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. Salina'had a boiler explosion, on Monday a week, at Robinson's elevator. Both the engine and boiler were thrown out of the building a considerable distance, and things kicked on the forehead, close to the eyebrows, by a horse and received an ugly, but, strange to say, not a dangerous wound.

Also, a few days previous to this, a son of George Hartzell, of Sherman township, fell from a horse and had an arm broken. Dr. McMahan, is the attending physician in both cases, and the lads are doing as well as could be expected. A meeting of the school district No. 5 will be held on Thursday, August 12, 1880, in tho Abilene school building, to which all interested should be present.

In attempting to keep some poles from rolling off a car, which they were distributing from, he was struck by one of the poles and knocked off. Six cars passed over him, cuttiug him up terribly. A part of the notorious Bender family, who committed so many murders in the southeastern part of this State, where they resided in 1873, are supposed to be captured at last. A man and woman, answering somewhat to their description, have been arrested and are confined at Freemont, Neb. It is not known for certain but they are supposed to be the old man and woman, and were making their way eastward to join their son and daughter, who. are also implicated as accessories in the horrible crimes. Sunday was a warm day.
