ye toiling slaves, and unpaid yealth producers, I Avant to impress upon your stupid minds, the fact, that the same brain-power that now enslaves and robs yon, will enable you to keep and enjoy what belongs to yon. took Mother Earth millions of years to develop and elaborate the form and quality of matter called brain; and those nations and individuals Avho are deficient in brain, are low, groveling, subservient slaves to men and nations superior to them in brain-power. The brain in nature's own way and time grows upward and forward from the lower and posterior part, till in the highest type of men and women the front and upper brain are dominant and control the body and the muscles. The large and active front-brain is a constant head-light by day as well as night, and when the top brain is large and controlling the front-brain will work and think for, and do good for humanity. In most of our leaders, officers and wealth-seekers, the front-brain' co-operates with the lower posterior, selfish regions of the brain-, to take advantage of stupid, muscular and bonv men, and think and scheme how to enrich themselves and get something for noth ing.

Muscles have no power to move and direct themselves and if the man of muscle has not the brain to set his bones and muscles to work for himself, some one with brains will employ him and take a large part of his product for himself. Brains and muscles must both have action, and if a man's brains can not set his muscles to Avork for himself, then he will have to work for those who have brains ami take what they can get. President Lincoln said there was intellect enough in every regiment of union soldiers to make a President Cabinet and Congress. How long before there will be brain enough amongst the employees of every department of labor to do their own thinking, planning and scheming, to pool their brain-power, to organize their intellectual forces, to stand erect like men of brains, and demand what belongs to them, and take it peacably and insistibly by tho help- each-other plan of co-operation which has in itself salvation, justice and equity for all. Competition is war, strife, hatred, waste, destruction and ruin i'i the end to a vast majority, which voluntary association and gov ernment, is constructive, conservative, accumulative, fraternal, and humane, and, to my mind, is the only Avay out of industrial want and hire ling slavery.

To one, who, like me, has plead for approved labor with tongue and pen, for fifty years, it is cheering to see on all hands, the signs of brain-growth among laborers, and a tendency to use brain force in their own behalf. The great and bloodless victory of the R. 11. employees over their oppressors of the Gould dynasty, by brain-power, both intellectual and moral, will be an important precedent to all the poorly paid and oppressed employees, who when they are compelled to strike, will strike as they did with the higher forces, Avhich when combined are irresista-ble and efftotive. The miners at Stepp's shaft four miles from Columbus, Kan. are on a strike to resist the arbitrary act of tho operators in discharging three of their number without sufficient cause.

The men are determined to hold out until the discharged men get their work again, and request all miners to stay awny until the uimculty is settled. the strike at New Castle is over, and work is again resumed under the same conditions as before. The dump or screens cannot be interfered with by the operators without the consent of those most interested, the miners. Capitalists naa better make up their minds to deal squarely with the workmen. W. Martin, mentioned last week by Cooper and Witruan, and telling people to beware of him, is not the W. W. Martin of Columbus, but the one that was chetkweighman at Hamilton's shaft Weir City, and cheated many people out of money. W.

W. Martin, of Steppes, near Columbus, is the son of Thomas Martin, one of the subscribes to the Jouknal, and we make this announcement so that he is not confounded with the Weir City Martin. The Weir City, correspondence was detained at the Pittsburg, P. 0. last week, for the proper amount of postage; we sent for it but it came too late to be used.

HCAMMONVIM.E. on the foundation of Keith Perry's new storj is being rapidly pushed forward. Mr. Allison, of Pittsburg, has the contract for laying the foundation, and, if the weather is favorable, will complete it in short time. The store is to be built of brick, size 29x80, the contract for the brick work is not yet made, but negotiations are now in progress between Keith Perry, and Mr.

Allison and a Fort Scott builder for the erection of the building. Jim McDonald is selling lots every day in the new town. There are more miners in Keith Perry's shafts than ever before, and from the appearance of things, there will probably be three days a week in each of the shafts all summer. We hear, however, a good deal of complaint from the men about the weight they get for the cars. We should think that Keith Perry make enough money out of the miners in the shape of profit without taking more off by short weight.

But capitalistic greed knows no bounds. Palaces are built on one hand and hovels on the other. Everything beautiful ond luxurious that it is possible for labor to create is enjoyed by the few who have been lucky enough to monopolize natural or created wealth, while those who do all the work enjoy none of the luxuries, and are very often denied even tho bare necessities of life. This world ought to be a paradise for men, instead of the hell it now is made so by invasive gov-erumentalism and monopolistic corporations. We would call the attention of thepeo-peoplc of Scammonviile, New Castle and Stilson, Steppes shaft, Weir City, Litchfield and Pittsburg to our aevertisers.
