I v' i 5 -spi 2 -J DO IT. If be worth reading: An Unworthy View. It is well understood by fair minded business men that local enterprises are dependent upon the newspaper, while the newspaper is, to a certain extent, dependent on local enterprises. When the enterprise ignores the newspaper the newspaper must retaliate in kind. A Question of Returns.

You might just as well set a hen on china eggs and expect her to hatch a brood of chickens as to try to do a successful business" without advertising. Make it Business Like. An ingenious advertisement is not necessarily a good advertisement. A clear, plain newspaper announcement is worth many intricate tho' clever ones. Don't Leave it to Luck.

People sometimes talk about good or bad luck in advertising just tho' the use of printers' ink were a game of chance. Apropos of this an advertising philosopher hits the nail on the head when he says: "Leave nothing to what is called luck, and you will always be lucky." Here's a Good Point. Pay your readeis the compliment of assuming that thuv will understand Trhut you have to say to them, even if it be technical. If you sell first-class dry goods tell where yours differ from any one else's; point out how to tell good cloth, lace, or whatever you sell. Show "the economy in buying the kind yon carry, or if more than one grade, of buying the best.

Keep Before the Public. To a certain extent general advertising: creates a want, It announces new things and familiarizes the public with old ones. General advertising is of as grat value to the advertiser in keeping an established article before the public as in in-trodticing new. one. The most successful business men realize this, and they never let the people forget their existence.

The oft repeated assertion that advertisements are not read has proved to be a lie of the most senseless kind, by the advertisers record of Good. Matured Advertising. The merchant or business man in any line who desires to reach the public, and profit in doing so, should give his announcements and invitations a genial, frank and good natured cast. The advertisement that bears on its surface the indications of a disordered liver does not attract; it repels, and instead of doincr the waiter good, it in-jures- him and -drives people elsewhere. The merchant who smiles thro' his announcements and over his counter makes friends and money.
