At tho Methodist church Sunday evening, at the close of the song ser vice, after several persons had testi tied to their religious experience, ex-Congressman Hanback rose to bis feet and spoke as follows: "I rely not on my own strength, but lean on tbe arm of my Savior. I stand here to-night to bear testimony of His holy name, and ask the pray ers of the people of God, that I may step out of the darkness into the light of His redeeming love. At the foot of the cross I cast the bulk of my sins, and looking up to where Ho hangs out-stretched, I will ask for help in this my hour of need. Uie only thh.g causod the contracting pai ties for the bridges to otter to pay one-half of the cost incurred budding ths bridges is from auniver-al custom bridge building in the count3T. Nearly every bridge in the county has beer, built on this system of payment. Jf it has been strictly adhered to then there is no injustice lone anyone township, if not then of course, the county should be compelled to stand the cost of the bridges. Wo will endeavor to throw some light on that subject if V70 can obtain anything from our county officials. OOLESON GATHERING.

There is comfort for tho man with a prematurely gray beard in Buckin-ham's Dye, because it never fails to color an even brown or black as-may bo desired. HI IMPROVED as I erow into' manhood my way of; life would havo been fixed, but at sixteen I closed the eyes of my mother nino months widow and with a family of six. of which I was the oldest we went out into the world to fight its battles. As we wandered hither and thither our lives fell into rough places and I ceased to follow mothers teachings. I think now when I look back on this scene, the world was cold and bleak, and sometimes I do not wonder that I fell by the wayside, but during all these years, the Savior has knocked at the door of my heart repeatedly, spoken to me, urged me to let him in.

I was in a strange city not long agor walking on the side walk, when I heard that voice call again, and turning in response to His tender demands, I went to my hotel and knelt at my bedside and prayed the lord to open the way, and from that, time on I seemed to havo a higher and better place than before, and the first thought that came to me I sat down and wrote to wife and told her that I helieved 1 had found my Savior. So I believe I had found my savior. So I stand here to-night not hesitating not doubling what is best lor me, ut pleading in His name, by His sacrifices and by his death for me, that I may be drawn out of this-slough of sin. that I my-feet may be put on the strong place, and that 1 may bo hi.s younger brother during the rest of mv life. For all these, 1 humbly ask your prayers." At the close rof the services Mr.

Trainor was called Monday to see Henry Garber, a married son of Wm. Garber, living north of town. From tbe Doctor we learn that Mr. G. was plowing out potatoes with his team which became frightened and started to run.

Meyers, For Counstables For Justice of Peace F. VanStralen. POLITICS JIAKES STRANGE BED FELLOWS. FOR THE QUIIX. Present indications point to the defeat ol the machinations of James Burton, republican postmaster, and his band of 6ttikrs in the democratic rank Party fealty would at least be expected from a republican office-holder, but its absence in this instance is only additional evidence of bis menial incapacity and incoherence.

Mr. Ion, the republican candidate for ccmmisslkner of the 3d district, made- a clean canvass, was fairly nominated, and deserves to be elected. The base misrepresentations having failed of their purpose, they have now turned to sgi tato the bridge question, hoping by seeming controversy tojnake it appear through emissaries sent through the district. Mr. Ion is without a friend and is well-nigh a public outcast.

This is ail political "dumb-chow," for every thinking man knows that their meetings are shams that the committee appointed to interview the county commissioners, won't interview for the simple reason that the bonrd will not meet in regular fessien until January, and that no busi-ntss of this kind can be transacted at fpecial meetings. Again the appointment of committees for the in. dieated virtually exposes their perfidily and supplies a motive for their rtio hp i rv.rfc of the scheme is conduct to have tikers at the noils to tratte everv where votes for the democratic nomiRee. The credit for this sSate-of affairs in the 3d commissioner district is largely due to Mr. Burton's efforts and js deserving ot the seveiet rebuke from the sincere republicans.

A desultory warfare within pin ty lines by such bush-whackers, is highly reprehensible and ought not be countenanced. Mr. Ion is an old citizen ot the eonnty, naving settled here early in the "seventies." By industry ud economy he has become one ot her most substantial homers. He is a good neighbor, an hon est and capable man, and for the past three years ably and efficiently performed the duties of trustee, to the- entire satisfaction of his constituency. It ib siueerely hoped that the transpar ent of this Democralic-Union-Labor fusion Is apparent to all republicans and that they will go to the polls and vote Churns, Goods can bo secured lor this Vicinity.
