THE SALVATION MESSENGER. life. God" has revealed to me that I in the atoning blood of Jesus. God have not got the same baptism of pow-can purify the heart one moment, and er that the oarly apo3ties had; and the next moment he can baptize them; IIe has alg0 rQvealed to me that it is for me, and that He is going to give it to me. Praise the Lord.

with the Holy Ghost, if they are not prejudiced against It, fearing, that the Holy Ghost might talk through them Naturally, I might be glad to get the in some other tongue, as He did at baptism of power without the outward the house of Cornelius. These people sign of speaking in other, new, or unknown tongues; but if God be pleased to speak through me in that way, 1 am willing to let Him do so, even though I know it means much persecution. I am not going to be without the wonderful baptism of the Spirit, jusr because there is a possibility of me speaking with other tongues, as the early: christians did, and as many are doing today- If a man had promised me an automobile, and told me to wait until he brought it to me; would I not be foolish to reject the car, when he came with it, just because he wanted to give me a bicycle along with it? Even though I did not care for the bicycle, I would be glad to take it, to get the automobile. So it is with the baptism and the tongues. SCRIPTURE UPON THE SUBJECT.

"For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. "To whom he said, This is the rest at the house of Cornelius were the same people who we read about above, who had their hearts purified by faith. One reason why there have not been 'many people in the Holiness movement, who have received the scriptural baptism of the Holy Ghost at or near the time of their sanctification, is because they have not had a vision of the baptism in the proper sense, and also because they have set themselves in a great degree against those who have received the gift of the Holy Ghost; and spake with tongues, and prophesied. We know that at least part of the people who receive the genuine baptism speak in other tongues. Many have been understood real earthly languages, languages which they never knew berore.

Then there is the unknown tongue, whicn no man understands, only as the spirr it reveals the interpretation. We read about this in I 14th- chapter. Some people believe that every person God is witnessing to my soul that He will suddenly come to His temple. He has cleansed it, and it is ready, for His coming. Praise the Lord.

After Jesus had told the disciples to tarry in the city of Jerusalem, until they be endued with power from on high, we read, "That they worshipped Him, and returned to Jersuaselm with great joy," And were continually in the temple, praising blessing God." Luke 24: 32, 53. I believe the disciples had a joy similar to what I have now. Praise the Lord. THE HOLINESS MOVEMENT A FORERUNNER OF THE LATTER RAIN. The great doctrine of the Holiness people has been the entire sanctific'a-tion of the believer.

They have misnamed this experience to a certain extent, in that they have also called it the baptism of the Holy Ghost, or at least said that it was the baptism which accomplished the work of soul purification. It looks plain to us that the Holiness movement has been the means in God's hand of paving the way for the mighty latter rain outpouring of the Holy Ghost, which all Holiness people may receive if they will accept it. Wc read in Matt. 3:11, 12, the following words: "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but ho that cometh after me is mightier than whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with "Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but will burn p. the chaff with unquenchable fire." Now, wc find here that Christ shall "baptize, us with the Holy Ghost, and with fire; but notice, something el3e is to take place first.

Christ has a fan in his hand, and he uses this fan to separate the wheat from the chaff. Now when Christ takes the gospel fan and blows all of the chaff of depravity and sin out of our souls, that leaves the pure wheat. The floor then is purged. The purged floor may represent the purified heart or soul. So wo see plainly that the Christ who wherewith ye may cause the weary who receives the baptism of the Holy! t0 rest; and this is the refreshing: 1 i Ml 1 .111 Al.

Ghost will speak in either some other yet they would not hear." Isa. 28:11, 12. We see here that speaking with stammering lips and another tongue are connected with the great soul rest and the refreshing. The person who has received the baptism surely has the greatest degree of soul rest; and also has received the greatest heavenly refreshing. Act 3:19, speaks about the times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord.

The man who is filled with the Holy Ghost truly has the presence of the Lord continually. known language, or else in the unknown heavenly tongue, at some time during their life. This may be true; but I personally do not know for sure about it yet. There are many scriptures which seemingly would imply this, however. The gift of tongues and the speaking with other tongues as the spirit gives utterance, under the direct power of the Spirit may be two different things.

THE BAPTISM OF THE SPIRIT AND SPEAKING WITH TONGUES. "And they were all filled with the Now I will not go outside of the Holy- Ghost and begall to speak with word of God to try to prove, anything. I other tongues, as the spirit gave them If I wrest the scriptures, I am guilty utterance." Acts 2:4. of a very great sin. The word of God "For, the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." Act 2:39.

"While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them whicl heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? Acts How did the other people, who came with Peter, know that these people had received the Holy Ghost? The answer is this "For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God." is the standard of truth, and I would not think of tampering with it. If a soul has received the scriptural baptism of the Holy Ghost, and actually has the power of God upon him in the same measure as the Bible teaches that we can have, and yet does not talk in other tongues, I would not toll him that he did not have the baptism.

Previous to my backsliding I had received a wonderful anointing of the Spirit, which seemed, to correspond to the scriptural baptism of the Holy Ghost, in every, way only in the matter of speaking in tongues. If all do inot speak with tongues, I may have been one of those who was not to speak in tongues. We know that all do not have the permanent gift of tongues. The reason that I am seeking and tarrying for the baptism now is not be cause I want to talk in tongues. No, shall baptize us with the Holy Ghost, will Vsee to it that He has a clean tcmr.

(to put His Spiirt in. In another sei.e the wheat may represent the saints and the chaff, the sinners. I don't know that I ever found a verse in the Bible which even seemed to intimate that the Baptism of the Holy Ghost was designed to purify the heart. In Acts 15:8, 9, we read, and God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; and put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith." Now this dots not intimate that the baptism of the Holy Ghost purified their hearts. Their hearts were purified by faith "And when Paul had laid his hands not by any means.

What I want is the upon tnem, the Holy Ghost came on baptism of power upon a sanctified tnem; an(j they spake with tongues,.
