Couple af the boys got into a small slz ed fracas on Monday night at the band room, which gave food for gossips, but which amounted to but little. Hi Honor, Abe, was called upon next day, but in his u.nal happy manner averted the storm. Ihe boys can thank their lucky stars that in Abe we have a peacefully inclined jus-tic-, eve though 'lis money out of his pocket. The city made great stride3 towards wealth last week- by licensing a fortune wheel gambling shop for the sum of two dollars per diem yea even to rooting the council room for the plying of the nefarious business, and the instruction of our youth in this fascinating crime. The ci ty can and has suppressed saloons, but then to allow a greater evil a gambling bell seems a queer move.

But as the thing has faded we won't say anything about it. Chicago has captured both tha leading national conventions for the present year, but she is not satisfied, and sever will be. The eae rry and grasping power of her peo pie are wonderful. The Tribune now says that the capital of the union must soon be located there; that the city is bound to have a million of inhabitants inside of twenty years; that in that time Canada will be annexed to the repablic, and that Chicago will be the most central location for the capital city. It being leap year one of our belles in fact The well, we won't give namea, walked two miles on Monday night to bid a fond farsweil to a young man she thoug'it was to leave for the east, but he was only fooling for he "bebbea up serenely" next morning.

In tha lan guage of the immortal poet 8 he met him at the trysUng place. To see once mors bis sweet, fair lacs En rapt lie was. In study Brown, hhe bude adieu be left th tows He left the town yes. In a horn But bobbed tip serenely la the mrn. Tbe beJlro here 'round have drawn a spell.

He'll stay acre now and yeB weM well The city is paying $35 per month for a marshal, $420 per year, and yet is doing without the least vestige of a fire appartus. Strange economy this that pays out $420 for what is no necessity and does without what is a dire necessity. This $420 judic iously used would purchase something that would be better than nothing to combat the fire (lend should a Are break out, or it wuld pay the interest on bonds sufficient to purchase the best of a fire system for the place and sometning to spare, and yet when asked why there is no move mada to protect the city ia this line we'are met wiih the reply too poor. But not teo poor to pay for a non essential. Mr.
