"A silver butter knife in each and every box" is the way Dave Latto said, but we could hardly swallow such thoughts, but on taking a box home and examining its con tents, found that the knife was there, and tbe baking powder of the Thomson Tay lor brand was a prime article to raise any thing in the shape of flour, to the lightness of good eating. Sunday is the worst day of the week. They congregate on the street corners and make more noise than all the rest of the town combined.

There should be something done with them. G. Rudy. We are glad to know tbat our business men, witlftheir accustomed enterprise aud public spirit, have contributed substantial aid toward the publication of a Guide to Silk culture, now nearly ready for the press. Tkis will be the means of bringing a great many people Enterprise, and Dickinson county to engage in the silk industry, Vol. 1, No.

2. of the Glasco Sun, a -neat and newsy 7-column folio which indicates that the people of the Upper Solomon are determined to make known to the advantages of their section. The vignette in the center of the bead is a pretty conceit and shows the town off as it leally is, without exagseration. Success to the Sun, and may Messrs. Bond Fisher reap an abundant harvest of ducats in their venture.

The small fry of our city got into a racket with a young country lad from the north country, Saturday last, which brought the citizens to the street corners to see the marshall launch him to the cooler. A warnning in time saved him, and gathering np the lines of his team he, in 4 very dignified manner rolled out of An example of the beautiful working of our prohibition statute. Rev. G. E.

Northrup preached his' first sermon in the city in the new church on south High street last Sunday, and a. good one it was too, The peoplo of Enterprise and tlie members of the Congregational church in particular, should feel proud of their new minister. We veature to say tbat it will not be long before tbe churcV will be filled every Sunday. The people should build a'parsonage and have him locate permanently in Enterprise. If such an attempt is made you will please put tLe Reoistxb down for its share of the expense.

The old board of township officers are candidates for reelection. S. Holds worth has been a faithful and efficient officer for the past three years, and will be elected again without opposition. A. J.

Logback handles all the township money with care, and of course the people will call on him to act again. There is no use saying anything about G. K. Lamb, for Center township would feel like a fish out of water without him as Clerk. Tbe whole board will doubtless be elected without opposition.

Mr. W. H. Elliott, one of the best salesmen in Abilene, who has been in the employ of Hazlett for nine years, has accepted a position as salesman in the mammoth clothing bouse of Simon Rothschild. As Mr.

Rothschild deals in nothing but clothing, and first-class goods at that, it will give our friend Elliott a chance to supply the wants of his many customers. When yon go to Abilene and want a neat and durable suit of clothes, hunt up Will Elliott. The room owned by Doc. Eyth on Factory street, has been fitted up for the accommodation of the Library Association and Kindred societies. We understand that the school board require a bond (a la shylock, we suppose), before allowing anything of the kind to enter the school building.

We always thought the law directed the board to open the school house ffcr such purposes, but suppose we are mistaken. We suggest tbe school house be taken in these cold Mights to prevent being moon struck, and tbat the hoodlums give bond to ktcp a respectful distance therefrom. Weeks Becker, of Abilene, were burned out twice ia ten days. They were In the south side fire, where they occupied the "Red Front." They had scarcely got settled in their new store on Third street when the fire of last week swept everything away from them again. Nothing daunted by the misfortune they again went to work and are now snugly located in their new store room jnst two'doors east of Hazlett's, where they will be glad to see all their friends.

The young men have shown themselves to be plucky and industrious, and we hope tbe people of Dickinson county will encourage them by giving them a liberal patronage when you want any groceries, feed or flour. We acknowledge a pleasant call from W. J. Graham in company with Mr. T.

H. Lay who is here with his wife and daughter from Whiteside County Ills, visiting his son who lives in Ridge township. Mrs. Catharine Eads, also of Whiteside county Ills, is here visiting her daughter, Mrs. Graham, of Ridge township.

Mr. Graham is one of oar solid and substantial farmers, aad we hope his friends will have a pleasant visit. What do the wild waves say? Why, probably, "We cost a dollar and a half at tpe hir store." Owing to lh crowd natter we are compelled to lay aver several articles until next week. Will Upshaw has been laid up for a few days with neuralgia, but was able to be out -ain Tuesday.

Real estate was moving a little the latter part of the week, but 'tis quiet now. All froze up. The singing class will antertain its visitors tomorrow night with DonBizetta's "New Year" and other songs. We have enjoyed the pleasure in the past few days of some real Kansas mud, caused by a thaw. "Wait till we count out the vote," next Tuesday, and then it will be an II and two L's that will get there.

Parties having farms to rent or sell, will do well to put thervt in the hands of Diggs Hoffman. Office at Enterprise Mills. There will be a spelling school and lyceum each Thursday night in Dist. 78, the Unkefer school. Miss Alice Dengler, teacher.

All are invited. Rev. LT. Yuchhoff, of Barmen, Germany, has accepted a call to the pastorate of the Evangelical church of this place, aad is now duly installed as pastor. This is the best country under the Sun.

We always have good weather except some times when we get seven or eight kinds of weather all at once. Tempora mutardur, tt mutamur illia. That's Latin, and when you thrash it out into Eng lish it means that a good many changes (in the past, present and future tenses), are taking place in the business circle Of Enterprise. Hon. W.

D. Nichols, father our Walter, accompanied by Mr. Bradford Hathaway are visiting here. They say they found more snow in Kansas than anywhere sines leaving their home in Taunton, Mass. Some people seem to think that they should have full sway in their line of business but we guess they will get left once in awhile.

Sunday was a beautiful day, and every body seemed to take advantage of it to go to church. We noticed Julius aterstradt, John A. Ilafncr and Adolph Leonard among the attendants at church on Sunday. Mr. John Widler called in on Saturday and reported everything booming in his neighborhood, and then passed on to the comity seat.

E. R. Potter, the live school teacher of Distsict 97, was in town Saturday interviewing the citizens. There was preaching at the north Swede church on last Wednesday, by a minister from Skiddy whose name we failed to learn. Rev.

G. E. Northrup will preach in the new church next Sunday at 11 o'clock a. m. sharp.

All should hear hinu TVin'r. fnrirot tli pTwrimre re tin'. of t-p tarhera on Raturdv. Fehruarv l7th. Let all come.

A good time will be exper ienced. Ask E. R. Potter to tell yoa the story of "how the mouse reached its hole after din ner," or what kept it from Teaching home before dinner. We welcome to our table the Clay Center Cresset, a newsy, six-columa folio, which sheds its light on the people in that metropolis, and cheerfully place its name on our Xlist.

This would be a good time to organize a fire eompany, and buy a hook and ladder truck, some one call a meeting and take steps to raise means for purchasing such a truck. Diggs Hoffman have money to loan on real estate at low rates and on long time. You will save money by calling upon them. Office at Enterprise Mills. We are under obligations to Harry Shad-inger, of Abilene, for courtesies rendered.

Harry is proprietor of the boss liveiy and feed stable, and withal one of the boys of (genuine grit. He had his name enrolled on the Rbgistkb list and is now happy. Will Lamb, the Roarinir Lion of Detroit was in town Saturday, making merry the heart of the sad soul. He tells a humorous gtory entitled "Who's dar," with a farce called '-Tell the truth Uncle." TIs worth a quarter admission fee. We would like a copy of the Rkgistxr of the date of Dec.

14th, 1882. Any of our readers having a copy of that date will oblige us by sending it to this office.
