not even to be tasted, it is absolutely necessary that the young mind be directed in selecting that which is best. The parent and teacher are the chief factors that are instrumental in directing the child, they must be taught to love the true, the lovely and the good. 'How clearly do we remember it all. Now it has been more than thirty since that mighty struggle began. It has long since ended, but what sorrow was wrought. How many of the loved ones have filled premature graves, and how many more who went into that struggle just at the threshold of life, strong and hearty, returned home maimed for life, broken In health and compelled to go through a long and weary life of pain. When I was a) tout the age that a boy thinks he knows twice as much as his father does, I used to write more letters than my top money would pay postage on. I wrote to all my boy friends and girl friends and to people whom I did not care a snap for and who cared less for me.

As I grew a little older and began to know I knew less, because I really knew more, I lopped oil' my correspondence to some extent, then after awhile more dropped and still more, till finally I had no correspondence except one lady, and her only when one of us happened to be out of town on a visit.
