The members of the First Presbyterian church met in the church parlors Friday evening and enjoyed a banquet or church supper, prepared by some of the best cooks in the county. After Ihe supper the business meeting was held. George H. Adams called the meeting to order. Rev.

Novinger read the scriptural lesson and led in prayer at the request of the pastor. Mr. Adams was re-elected chairman of the congregation and W. F. Shale was re-elected secretary for the ensuing year.

Reports were read from all the departments of the work showing very gratifying results for the past year. The reports of the Missionary, Senior Endeavor and Aid Societies and Sabbath school were especially gratifying, each closing the year with a balance in the treasury. The Sunday school has now an enrollment of 372, including a cradle roll of 47 and a Home Department of 73. The church membership climbed up from 374 to 417. This however, before the end of the year was decreased by 14 dismissals to other churches, 4 deaths and two suspensions, leaving the membership 397, a net gain of 23 over the total enrollment of last year.

The entire evening was a most pleasant one, characterized by a feeling of kindly fellowship and earnest determination to make the new year one of advancement along all the lines. The orchestra and choir are commended for their faithfulness and willingness to assist the pastor in making the services attractive, and the attendance, especially at the evening service, so much larger than is usually found in cities of even larger population than Hiawatha. The secret of it all is in the harmonious working together 'of the musical forces of the church, and in the effort to keep abreast of the times in utilizing such elements as work for legitimate results.
