The first part of the article is a letter written by Captain Cssher, who commanded the Undaunted, which took the exile to Elba; the last part is by Lieutenant Mills, of the Northumberland, and consists partly of a diary which the young lieutenant kept while on the way to St Helena in the same ship with the ex-emperor.

It is now asserted by electricians that we are upon the greatest revolution in our methods of transportation between distant points that the world has ever seen. Steam, the slow and noisy Laggard, is to be superseded by the swift and noiseless electric force.

The steam and smoke and cinders that have made railroad traveling such a discomfort will be relegated to the same oblivion with the stage-coach. Not only great changes are predicted in the motive power which is to draw the trains of the future, but also a revolution in the methods of railroad traveling. The "bicycle track" or the track of the single rail, is now striving hard to obtain recognition. Its inventor, E. Moody Boynton, claims that when the single xcil track comes into use eighty miles an hour will be no less than the average speed of traveling.

Mr. Boynton's system has been tried on a small scale with success. An Odious InaoTtUon. Wo notice a movement, sanctioned in many respectable quarters, which, if it shall spread to any general extent, will abolish old-fashioned courtship. This is the advocacy of the extension of the English, method of chaperon-ago. It is now advocated that young lovers hould not be allowed to enjoy each other's company alone, but that the young lady, when her worshipper calls upon her, Bhall be attended by her unwelcome and superfluous chaper-one.
