Kansas. Wei Where do you expect to find as good as at the PRATT HARDWARE I5IPLE. Judge Kelly is now at Newton, having resurreected the Newton Kunsan. Going from Hutchinson to Newton, in the newspaper business, is a little like jumping out of the frying pan into the tire. We should be pleased to see the Judge succeed, but don't believe he Can cut it at a place like Newton we should prefer Turon, Sawyer or even Cairo to the town Bro.

Kelly has located in. The Chicago fair party, composed of Mrs. B. W. Hall and her son, Ernest, and Mr.

nnd Mrs. C. P. Brown, have returned. Ernest brought his little brother a suit of roan's clotiies and the latter has now discarded petticoats and acts on the street as if be was monarch of all he surveyed.

Found, on the road loading south from Preston, on Saturday evening last, a pocket book, which the owner can have by proving property and paying tor this notice, apply at the residence of Mrs. M. E. Dake, about three miles northeast of Preston. Harrel Morley had their share of the big trade in Pratt last Saturday.

The people in Pratt seem to know a good piece of beef when they see it, and this lirni always has that kind on hand. There is no better judge of stock in Pratt county than Bro. Morley, the outside rustler of this popular house. Pete and Frank Barker were in Pratt last Saturday and said that a week or ten days' trip to the tair afforded very little satisfaction that it would be a six months' job to thoroughly inspect it. The pictur" of the Santa Fe agent at Cullison, as it appeared in one of the Pratt papers last week, may have resembled Bill live or six years ago," but nobody would take it for him now-a-days.

Vote for Hawkins. Messrs. Luther Uaskill, of the Preston meat market, are giving such good satisfaction that more fresh meat is sld in Preston now than ever before. They are doing nicely. Try them for a steak or a handsome roast.

The effort to have the title of the Democratic ticket changed on the official ballot, to Irregular, which was heard before the board on Friday last, failed to be accomplished, and no one seemed to be a bit worried over the matter. Vote for Hawkins. Mr. Alex Hoagland. who resides in Pratt county near Cunningham, was in Preston on Tuesday, and made a call at this office.

Two of his children are still in Chicago taking in tho closing exercises at the fair. Mr. Hoagland reports the wheat suffering in his section for the want of moisture. Charley Williams, a twin brother of Geo. is in from Washington on a visit.

It is live years since he left Pratt county. There is a striking resemblance between him and George and quite a number about town were fooled. The people of luka are kicking very lustily against the present arrangement of running the train on the jerk water. The train comes in from the main line, runs to luka, remains there long enough to get turned round and then back to the main line and ou to Larned. The luka folks want the people of Preston to join them in a vigorous protest against the arrangement.

Vote for Ha kins and everything will be straightened out. VVm. Douthart, a brother of Dr. J. I.

Douthart, died in Pratt this week. He met with an accident about a year ago, by which he broke a rib, and underwent several operations to have portions of tho diseased rib removed and finally succumbed to blood poisoning. John Brown, Mr. C. 3on, lost a school-book tho other day, with J.

T. Shaffer's name on the fly leaf. The finder will confer a favor by leaving it with Mr. Shaffer or at this office. It must have been fun and required a good bit of hard work for tho girls to get Hopkins' buggy on top of Stead's ware house, the old red building just across the street from the post office.

So far as tho Plaindealer is concerned, the office was treated well on Tuesday night. The front of the building was completely blocked with store boxes, crates and barrels kindling enough to last all winter. Come again, girls. Tho south end of Mam street was completely blockaded with wagons and plows. It is a wonder where all the wagons, buggies, plows and harrows came from that were scattered through town nnd piled up in front of tho business houses on Main street.

About the most amusing thing the girls did on Tuesday night, was to fasten a string on the building occupied by Prof. G. Robertson and family, and then fiddle on the other end. Of course, It woko the Professor np and in reply to his wife's question as to the cause ol the unseemly noise, the Prof, ventured the opinion that it resulted from a dog scratching on a pilo of lumber lying against the house. After two or threo investigations, the string was finally discovered and the Professor pulled in, hand-over-hand, the musicians evidently regretting to lrave go, Hnd he now holds that as a trophy.

The trip that many made to' the strip at the opening will be the cause of a good deal of challenging, next Tuesday. If they went there with the intention, whether successful or not, will bp the point to decide. The Republicans have no ticket up for township officers and probably, it in just as well. Geo. W.

Reed for 'trustee Horace Fuller for Treasurer R. F. Crick for Clerk, and tho other boys for Constables and Road Overseers could not be improved upon. Billy Daily set apart Wednesday pf each week, during tho campaign just closing, to work Preston. Billy is not so sanguine of success as some of -the others on the Republican ticket, and probably it is just as well.

Over-confidence is going to swamp some of them. Mako'your mark wherever you please and if yon want to vote for a man or woman, whose name is not printed on the ticket, write it in the blank space for the office you want him or her to till and then make your (X) mark in the square on the left of it. Don't scratch a single name on the ticket. Beware of tho toipid wasp on the window. Ho is still full of business.

Curtis has made a good clerk, is a change necessary. Why change horses while crossing a stream That hunting party.fromPratt that went to the Territory two or threo weeks ago, has returned and the saddle of venison which tho Plainoualek was to receive, as its share of the spoils, turned out to be only a photograph of a possum, with Bill anti Frank Farmer in tho back-ground. The photograph is a good one and we were glad to get even that. Vote for Hawkins, Curtis nnd Williamson. Saturday's Wichita Eagle The entertainment given by Miss Minnie Pedigo, at the Central Christiau Church last Tuesday eveuing, will be repeated next'Tuesday evening for the benefit of the Sunday school piano fund.

Miss Pedigo possesses rare powers of entertainment, as those who have heard her can affirm. New selections will be given and the occasion will be one of great enjoyment." Medicine Lodge Cresset Sheriff Boyd, in trailing the thief who stole the mules and wagon Sunday night, found E.H.Nixon's dog which was stolen a year ago last July. It was in the possession of a man near Cunningham. Lawrence Journal James Kelly, recently of Pratt, who lately experimented with a daily newspaper at Hutchinson, will try again at Newton. He has purchased tho Kausan, a newspaper whose publication was suspended a short time ago after it had consumed all the earthly possessions of its owner.

What is needed in Kansas is, not a man to start another newspaper, but some one to go about and chloroform to death a large number ot papers that exist. Trustee Geo. W. Reed has selected the following gentlemen to serve as election officers in this township on Tuesday next Messrs. G.

W. Giest, F. A. Allen and Gid Combs, judges, and Geo. Williams (Williams Bros.) and A.

B. Gaskill, clerks. A good selection The assassination of Mayor Carter Harrison in Chicago lust Saturday evening created a bigger sensation in this country than anything that has happened since President Lincoln's untimely taking off. Crazy or not, tho rope would no doubt have a restraining influence on the vicious acts of the cranks. Tun Best Plaster.

Dampen a piece of flannel with Chamberlain's Pain Balm and bind it on over the seat of pain. It is better than any plaster. When the lungs are sore such an application on the chest and another on the back, between the shoulder blades, will often prevent pneumonia. There is nothing so good for a lame back or a pain in tho side. A sore throat can nearly always bo cured in one night by applying a flannel bandage dampened with Pain Balm.

50 cent bottles for sale by Z. T. Blackwell, druggist. Nobody will deny that Hank Williamson has faithfully and efficiently performed the duties of the office during his administration. Vote for him for sheriff.

Cleveland can now'go ahead with his Thanksgiving proclamation. Repeal carried in the Senate on Monday night after a long struggle. Note the change in the advertisement of Mr. Geo. W.

Stewart. Of the threo candidates for County Treasurer select the one that has the business qualifications to properly run the office and then your ticket will have nn before tho name of J. T. Hawkins when it is dropped in, the ballot box. One word describes it perfection." We refer to De Witt's Witch Hazel Salve, cures obstiuate sores, burns, skin diseases and is a well known cure for piles.

Dr. Blackwell. Subscribe for the riaindealer, for it and be happj. A. Kalb, Pratt, Manager.

The wife of W. G. Alexander, Who formerly resided near luka, died in Herington last week. Remember J. T.

Hawkins fur Coun ty Treasurer when you go to the booth to prepare your ballot. It seems like old times to see Mr. H. H. Hopkins moving about the business center of Preston agaiu.

A Democratic meeting in Preston on Thursday evening. Vote for Williamson, Curtis and Hawkins. And the most of the devilment done about town on Tuesday night was perpetrated by young ladies John 1). Stewart of Pratt is about to go into business in Alva. We hate to see a man like John leave.

H. L. Fell, the cashier of the People's Bank in Pratt, spent last Sunday in Topeka again with friends. Mrs. Jake Diotz, reported ill, is on the highway to recovery, which will gratify the many friends of the family.

There will be very little money used in Haynesville township on election day by the candidates for the township officers. Gossip has it that a dancing club is to be organized in Preston for the winter's amusement. That sounds like business. Mr. and Mrs.

Joe Center, of Turon, were in Preston on Wednesday. Joe is still writing policies for the German Insurance Company. An encouraging sign that shows business is reviving is the fact that the gay nnd festive drummer is getting numerous onco more. Kt. E.

Gander, formerly of Turon, is at Pond Creek, and will hereafter run the Cherokee Sentinel at that place. Success to bitn. What right has the Missouri Pacific to take up the heavy steel rails on the luka branch and relay a lighter Does that company own the road P. G. W. Stewart's store was crowd ed last Saturday with people trading and it was found necessary to draft several extra clerks Into service. Stew art's is a popular house. The station agent of the Santa Fe at Cullison was in Preston on Tuosday, and wo regret to say found very little to encourage him in his aspirations for the position of County Treasurer.
