But what, in the meantime, are the men who have amassed their millions out of the government's policy of protection doing for the workmen? Do they share with the workmen the loss and hardship of these days of distress? We read of a Mr. Jones, who was chosen chairman of the national republican 100,000 to the campaign fund to secure the election of Mr. Blaine. Mr.

Jones is described as a sharp, shrewd organizer, a "thorough protectionist," and a man of great wealth. In Blaine's election he secures absolute guaranty against the disturbance of the laws (Which enabled. lirm, Jones, to make his fortune and to contribute the 100.000 to the campaign fund. Is the issue plain? Do workmen believe the master who says he cannot afford to keep the mill open and who can at the same time contribute princely sums to a campaign fund? The company were very nice people to be with. Discussion of politics was not very generally engaged in on the way to the rally. When we arrived at Abilene we were precipitated into a dense crowd. Some shouted Martin, soma -shouted Glick and some were too hungry to hollow they were in search of a first-class hotel. After supper we met naany resubmission friends, who had Jut arrived in the city.

Aftsr perambulating the streets awhile we accepted an to Hon. Burton's office, where wo could get a good view of the Republican people who were to march through the streets. The music and marching soon commenced. The Goddess of Liberty elicited considerable attention, because the Minneapolis patriotic boys guarded her nobly as they marched in line nex to her. Those present who heard the speech read several times say he is improving. Probably he nas it nearly memorized. A colored company of about twenty (Republicans) sang some funny songs on the stage at tho opera house.

As they left the stage the friendly politicians, Martin and others, shook hands with them in a most friendly manner. After we got tired of standing up we left the opera house. As we passed out we met a democratic friend. He asked us if we would take something. Some of the boys said yes, so away they went and we watched them, and seen them enter 23 raloons and come out again with a disappointed look on their face.

They said the beer supply had all played out; there were too many prohibitionists in town during the day.
