What was the compensation Daid to George Huycke two years ago for supporting the regular nominee for representative, S. W. Bard. Was not Huycke shouting lustily for Jackson the independent candidate till within a few days of the election? How was it that he was finally subjugated by Mac to work and vote for Bard.

"Every little, small potatoe. disreputable cuss who cares nothing for the welfare of his country, is for McLennan." George Huycke How long has it been since Georce was a "disreputable cuss," and did not care for the welfare of his country. For years past, Huycke has worked as a faithful allv of McLen nan in all campaigns, and because Mac can not be used as a iool to further Huycke's pet Bcheme for the postoffice at Ellsworth, Mac, and ev ery republican who supports him. is either a "pimp," a "gambler," or a "Alal'oniitol-ilrt 17 "Every man who has eot a note in shane to be squeezed is for McLennan." Were you "squeezed" that time, and by whom. Who, immediately after that embarrassment told W. F. Tompkins and others that he was under special obligations to Mac and the kindness shown him should never be forgotten.

George Huycke, You were for Mac then, but did he "squeeze" you? For a chronic disgruntler and a confirmed bolter of the straight party nominations, Huycke is the peer of any worn out greenbacker in Central Kansas. His methods of politics partake of idiocy, and it is to be hoped ere it is too late, that he will see the error of his ways and finally decide to vote and work for the straight, party ticket. Sixthly, and lastly, "what the devil are yon roaring about," George. desire the delegates who are friendly to Jackson, to cast their ballots for McLennan, and I will run independent and snow him under on election Jackson on Saturday Sept. 1, 1888, Throwing Mud are You? Why does it not call attention to the trial docket for the November term for 1888, which reads as follows: No. Title of case 5J2 Farwell Co. Amount, $1,172.73 vs Harrison Also, the forgery case before N. H. McCoy, jtistice of the peace, wherein this candidate is interested in personally.

Was Harrison an "honorable lawyer" then, and was it "legal 'business?" Better pluck the beam from thine own eye before grasping for the mote in other eyes. Vote for Frank Hodgden for register of deeds. It is a dangerous experiment to swap horses in the middle of a deep and turbulent stream: Likewise it is dangerous to experiment with our public schools. ao. McLennan, it seems, will get there beyond a doubt. The grand old party must be kept straight. Jesse Forrest is doing a land office business baiyng and selling calves. The prices run from $4 to $8.

We are a little afraid the paralytic stroke of Mr. F. J. Dean, recently reported, will prove a serious affair. How about Ellsworth selling Salina flour by the car-load.

What is the matter with our home mills. The venerable Mr. Bradley has been in a condition of somnolence at the Cottage hotel all the past week. Some of our people were quite a little interested in Mr. A.

O. Whaley's removal to California, last week. B. F. Eastburn left the Oak creek ranch Sunday night He was well known to a number of our people.

The little private shoot, down at the Amen can the other night, between the two saloon letpers, does not amount to much. Yet they ay where there is so much "smoke" there must be "fire." State central committee secretary, Al. Geb-Kardt, of Topeka, was up over Sunday with his family.

Al. thinks Kansas will go for Harrison, but Ellsworth county, all 1 can't straighten it out. There is one thing that is getting to be a nuisance. Breaking glass in vacant houses by boys, and the vast amount of hoodlum thieving and petty burglary by town boys. Where is the city police force.

The venerable John Quinlan died at Mr. Wheeler's, and was buried Saturday. He was a cousin of the old cattlemen John and Michael Quinlan, of Ellsworth county. He was an Irishman by birth and had been long afflicted. To the old, worn out and sick, death is indeed a welcome visitor.

Why not turn the Ellsworth creamery into a church? Perhaps it would make a court house? How would it do for a union saloon and gambling house? Perhaps the Ellsworth politicians could use it as a headquarters and sub-treasury. Wonder if Peg, Ruby Co. could not utilize it? A riverside-seaside-summer-bathing resort, joining the bubbling alkaline waters of the raging Smoky wouldn't be bad. Indeed, what shall we do with aut milk while sleepeth the Ellsworth creamery? A vote for C. J.

Evans for county attorney, is vote for an honest administration of our county affairs. A Word to the No thoughtful person can not fai to see that we are on the eve of an eleotion of more than ordinary importance to the people of the sunflower state, and we would remind our voters that we need practical working men in the senate. A vote for McLennan is a vote to return P. B. Plumb to that body, and to vote for Alderson, is to give aid and comfort to those in opposition to republican rule.

But you do not admira McLennan, The Reporter does not support McLennan; Jackson is opposed to Mac; the head and front of his offense is, he succeeded The Reporter and the Jaclnon et al factions. They failed, and McLennan stands to-day, the republican nominee for representative. On the 6th day of next November you will say who is to be your choice What can you gain by going over to the enemy, and what will you get by going. Your best interest demands that you consider this matter, as citizens of a great commonwealth, and your efforts must not be diverged from the main issue at stake. McLennan is entitled to your hearty support, and he is deserving of it.

So close up your columns; do not allow enemies to sow the seed of discord in the camp. Do not allow these enemies, when they have accomplished their purpose, to laugh at your credulity. Remember that "United we stand; divided, we fall," so do your duty as a republican. See to it that Ellsworth county has a republican representative, and he be A. N.

McLennan. Close up the column and vote for Mao and the straight party ticket. Vote for C. J. Evans for county attorney.
