A DEMOCRATIC PAPER WITH A STATEWIDE CIRCULATION The Wee kly XRays Democrat NUMBER 2 VOLUME ,35 217 WEST 1914. Six Democratic Arthur Capper Congressmen for Governor Republican State Ticket Wins Capper's Plurality 50.000. Elected in the President Wilson Sustained. KANSAS, FRIDAY, NOV. 6, Our President" Woodrow Wilson The people of Kansas endorsed the petce policj of our worthy president, Woodrow Wilson, by the election of one senator and six congressmen from Kansas.

George A. Neely Congressman George A. Neely, Dem-ocraticv candidate for" U. S. Senator, was elected by 2000 plurality, accord ing to the claims at Democratic head quarters.

The Goldsmith of Nome Here I wrought throughout the ages By the silent, tideless sea, Bea ing out my golden ingots For the empire yet to be. Watched the mighty strife of nature, Heard the glacial millstones grind, Marked the rise and fall of nations, Timed the progress of mankind. When I entered on my labors, Stately palm trees wierdly threw Slender shadows in the moonlight Where sea slept warm and blue. In the dask primeval forest Dank beneath a tropic sun, Roamed wild beasts of form colossal Greater than the mastodon. Birds of brilliant sunlit plumage Caroled in the founded trees, And their songs were wafted seaward On the balmy summer breeze.

Fragrant flowers exhaled their odors, And the distant hazy hills Lulled the' fruitful va'es and uplands With the music of their rills. When God saw the selfish uses To which men had put this gold, Black his brow became with anger "And his heart grew stern and cold. And he hurled his bolts of thunder From the battlements of Heaven, Till the sun went out in darkness, And remotest space was riven. Then came on that awful travail Which made Mother Nature groan, Shook the stars from out the heavens, Threw the devil from his throne; Swung the planets from their orbits Till they aimless swept and whirled, Turned the tropics into arctics And repolarized the world. Through the frigid, age long winter Here in loneliness I dwelt In my breezy glacial cavern, Waiting for the ice to melt.

Till at last I caught a vision Through the sun-transfigured rime Of my tales once more a-slumber 'Neath the haze of summertime. Sam C. Dunham. i wT' i i xit FIFTH STREET, TOPEKA, We Crow For the six democratic congressmen elected from Kansas. Inauguration of the New Currency System On November 16th the new Currency system will be put into effect all over the country.

The 12 regional Government controlled banks will begin business as banks for bankers. This system contains the best and mott valuable features to be found in the banking systems of the entire world, and it will be the beginning of the, greatest era of prosperity ever known, and it will be an era that no panics will be able to puncture. The great benefit to be derived from these new banks is easily explained. For instance, suppose a bank loans $100,000 to the business "men of its community, and more business men wanted another $75000 which the bank could not spare. Under the old or present system the last set of men would go withe ut the loan, and so business and industry would suffer accordingly, in that town or county.

Under the new system, the local bank would deposit the securities it received as collater il fthe first loan with the Government Regional Bank, and borrow the $75,000 therefrom at about four per cent and then lend it out at about five per cent. So under this system no legitimate industry can ever suffer for want of money, and financial panics will be impossible. Attorney E. Atchison Attorney W. E.

Atchison, the Democratic candidate for County Attorney of Shawnee county, was re-elected for the second term.
