Be friends with everyone until he proves to you unfriendly, no matter how he may seem to treat others. Put men on their characters, not on their reputations, and see how much more peace of mind you will have, and how much better this world will seem, Let's be friends as we journey through this world. Let's get the good out of the apple and leave the core. Let's be patient nor expect no more patience than we give, and give all we can. That's about all there is in life anyway; kindness and friendship.

"And the greatest of these is charity." William Allen White. Governor Bailey's Father Dead. Baileyville, Dec. 7. Monroe Bailey, father of W.

J. Bailey, governor elect of Kansas, died at the family home one mile north of this place, at 10:80 o'clock this morning, after a lingering Illness of nearly three months. On the evening of September 9, while pulling off his boots, he fell from the chair and sustained injuries from which he never recovered and other complications arose which, with his 81 years of age, he was unable to overcome. Mr. Bailey was a pioneer, having come to this state in 1879, and settled on the homestead where he died this morning.

He leaves four children. The funeral May Do Some Good. The question as to whether Wellington is trying to support too many churches which was raised in a recent editorial in this paper has caused and is causing no end of discusdion, and may result in some good to the church interests, and if so, the end desired will have been attained. Adhering to no religious creed, the editor of this paper takes the position that the Christian religion is a great civilizer and that a community without churches would be a very undosirable place in which to live, and this, notwithstanding the evidences of hypocracy in the churches so numerous as to startle him who stops to notice. For the abstract value of any organization, religious as well as secular, should be judged by those members who live it's purposes and not by those who disgrase them.

And by this standard, the Christian religion embraces more of value to organized society than all other forces combined. We are, then, friendly to the honest church interests' and bolieve that an outsider may judge of some things in reference to the churches as well, per. haps better, than an insider. There are too many churches in Wellington. We assert this so positively, because it's truth is so apparent.

Candidly now, what need is there of more than five organizations? The Catholic and Episcopalian, while their congregations are small in the city, probably could not well be without local organizations. Aside from these there is need of a church represent' ing the Armenians, another the Calvan-istic ideas and then the Baptist or Christian. Too many preachers are em ployed, and too much time and effort is spent in keeping struggling organiza tions together. The forces of the church are divided as to be greatly weakened. We take it that the church is organized for tvro purposes; first, to give the nee? essary comfort and sustenance, both spiritually and physically, to those who are members, and second, to bring into the organization all those who may be willing to accept the faith.

In our judgment, if the commercial institutions of Wellington were run with no mora zeal, ear and enthusiasm on the part of the' employees than are the church interests of the town, the bankruptcy courts would have to be enlarged. Plain speech, yousay? Well, isn't it justified? We The Helta-Skelta Battle Creek, Mioh." The Inter-State Grocer gives this as a fair sample of an item from one of the Battle Creek newspapers. It did not appear in them, but it might have: "The now factory an Main street baa at Inst found a name for its product. It is to bo made of pulverized sawdust and ground oat straw and is guaranteed te be as good for man as for beast. It is to be called "The new factory in the south end of the city is Importing hemlock bark from Canada in large quantities.

It is to be ground fine, baked in superheated ovens and mixed with molasses and sold for a health food," Its name is to be "The latest food, is having a heavy sale. The manufacturers sny that they consider their process of grinding and sterilizing jimpson weed and Canadian thistle as healthful as any of the others. "The new set of solid silver letters to be used in drawing names for foods from a bat has been delivered. The Name Committee of the Associate Manufac turersof Healthy Health Foods will meet each morning and draw forth rom-the hat these letters and shape them into names for the as yet unnamed foods. The committee this morniDg drew out two very nice and euphonious names.

They are 'Kblygtrsky' and It has not been decided to whom these names will be awarded as one of the manufacturers claims that he had thought of both of them before the committee drew them out." An Important Industry. How few of us really know much of what our neighbors are doing. For instance, how many of the five thousand citizens of this town know that just northwest of tho city limits is one of the big nurseries of Kansas and Oklahoma. A good many years ago James Worden decided to go into the nursery business. He went into the banking house of John G.

Reed, one of the great men of the country, died at Washington early Sunday morning. He was 63 years old and had been prominent in public life since the civil war. The Amerioan people owe a great debt of gratitude to Thomas B. Reed. At the time he was first elected speaker of the house of representatives that body had reached the point where it was almost impossible to Oa the morning of February 5, Dunn, with his gang, tried to rob the bank at Clarksville.

John II. Powers, sheriff, was killed in trying to stop the. work of the burglars. Dunn was shot in tho right groin, and about the middle of the month he was found in the St. Francis hospital and placed under arrest.

Georgo Durham, known as "Jersey," was arrested in Wichita on February 16. Dunn lay in the hospital over six weeks under the constant care of apby-sieian. On the night of April 3, by some means he escaped from the hospital, and at a time when every doctor who had examined him said that it was impossible for him to walk and that positive death would result from his moving Dunn escaped all right, and nothing has been heard of him until a month ago, when a representative of a Cincinnati detective ageney bobbed up ia Florida, saying that he had killed Dunn while trying to arrest him for the murder. This matter was never investigated, as the authorities had little faith in the story. Dunn may be dead, but the police forces of half a dozen cities do not believe it, and they do not know where he is.

Fred T. Underwood, the other man convicted yesterday, is well known among the crooks of this city. He robbed the postofflce at Cheney about three years ago and served a two-year sentence in the federal penitentiary. He got out just in time to take part in the Clarksville robbery, and now he has a sentence of death hanging over him. Denver Frenchy and Smiler Joe are known here.
