For some cause to us unknown the Catholic Fair did not begin last evening. Fifty pound cans of pure Jard for $3.50, including can at D. This is Pension day and the men of 61 to 65, no longer young crawled out quite early to sign their draft on Uncle Sam.

City Treasurer, E. Holt, went down to Columbus last evening on business and returned on the 12:47 train this morning. Miss Daisy Forney has gone to McCune to stay with her father. There' is at least one young man who will miss her, but we will not give name. Those who did not go to the Baptist church last night to hear the Pomeroy Family missed a great treat.

Every one there was highly pleased and entertained. Clarence Aitchison, of Columbus the reliable lightening rod man was in tne city last night. Modelled. Rev. E. Brant, presiding elder of this district, came in on Sunday. He is making an effort to get the -M.

E. church in this city on its feet. He proposes to give the church $300 of the'ehurch extension funds, provided the members of the church and others will raise the additional sum of $600. The proposition is to move the present church building and build an addition of 25 to 30 feet, paint and put it in first class condition, he will, when conference meets, send a brond-guage. up-to-date minister here to fill the pulpit.

ARRESTED AND GOT UGLY Tom Boon tanked up on "joint goods yesterday and was arrest by Marshal IIatton who started with him to the lock-up. When they reached Hamilton Braid-wood's corner Jim was getting pietty tired, Boon was on the pullback. George Caraway was ordered by the marshal to take hold of Boon and assist, he caught him by the right wrist. Boon Jerked loose and hit Cara-was a smart blow. George gave him one back in the face as quick as a flash that would have floored had not the marshal held him from falling.

George then took hold and Boon walked off considerably tamed. He was locked up and will be requested to contribute something like $11.00 for bis fun. iterday hunting for three fat steers that were cut out and driven away from his herd of twenty-five. He did not find them and then was losking for the hides. Lat week the Butler Company bought three tat steers ot a man who gave his name as William McRew.

He said he lived near Neutral in this county. Mr. Price is looking for him, 1 A SUPPOSED One week ago yesterday Msrion Asbell, living six miles south of Oswego, drove his 14 year old step son Willie Whitehead away from home. On Tuesday Maggie Whit8 head, the 16 year old sister, went to a neighbors on business. When she returned her mother was missing and the eight, months old baby wa3 crying.

She asked her step-father where her mother was and he said he did not know. Search was made. The neighbors houses were visited and at last the body of Mrs. Asbell found in the cellar and near by a Colt's re volver. She had been shot in the head, but the coronor's jury could not find any powder marks.

When the coroner's jury returned their verdict, Asbell was arrested and placed in jail at Oswego. Rumor says Maggie has told some very damaging things. Mrs. Asbell was a sister of Ben Mrphy and Mrs. Ed Crawley of this city and both Murphy and Crawley have been in Oswego and that vicinity for several days and when they return more facts will be given.

REGULAR COUNCIL MEET- ING. Council met in regular nession last night and was called to order by' Mayor D. W. King. The roll was called and -i he following councilmen answered to their Dowd, Dodon, Hargiss, Gould, Beatty, Shaw and Hunt.

The minutas of the last meeting were read and approved. The re pprt of police judge James Morgan was read showing the amount of fines, collected during' Jan uary and turned over to the city treasurer was a total of $402.25. The report was adopted. The city clerk made his report show ing that he had collected since last May to Jan. 1st.

la-it in icenses and occupation tax was read and approved. The report of the fire department Was read giving names of officers elected and recommanding the. appointment. of William Benton as chief and Thad Hargiss as assistant chief. The report was approved.

A communication was received from the county clerk in regard to election expenses and pauper coffins. An ordinance wan introduced In regard to awnings, placing goods for.exhibi'ion on sidewalk, post ing bills on-electric light poles on on Main street, and orderirg all electric light poles on Main street painted, read by sections and passed on a first reading. An or dinance was read in regard to a 6ide walk on east street, read by sections and the vote taken, it was passsd on first reading as a whole. A number of bills of various kinds were read and all bills except for salaries were le-ferred to the finance committee. The name of J.

W. Karrell was presented by the mayor for city assessor and he was unanimously confirmed. Costs vs Charles Ap-plegate to the amount of $3, was remitted by the mayor, which was approved by the council. Wm. Benton was confirmed as chief of the fire department and Thad Hargiss as assistant chief.

Thad Hargiss called the attention of the councilto the necessity of having new hose. The matter was referred to the committtee on fire department. A motion was made by Dowd to pay Mrs. Hurlburt $10.00 for keping pauper, motion lost. Motion to allow $7.00 to Mrs! F.

Thornburg for quilts lost while taking pauper to poorhouse, laid over. There being no farther business the council adjourned until Friday evening, Feb. 7th. E. W.
