Sheldon, of Sterling, spent a day here this week. Becker was in town the pther day for the first time since hwt fall. He has been vory sick and we are glad he Jb able to get abput again. Charley Baker, of your city, was here last Tuesday eh business. Charles Aylesbury and George Christopher were here last Sunday.

They were the guests of Geprge Miller while in tho city. The picnic at tho grove was quite well attended though tho general rush of harvest kept a great many from coming who would otherwise havo attended. Every one seemed to enjoy themselves. The music was rendered bv tho Chase choir. C.

T. Yeilding has been suffering very much for the last six weeks with a splinter in the first finger of his left hand Tuesday Dr. Stover removed said splinter which was 1 inches in length. Notwithstanding the mariy rains that have fallen through harvest-time the majority of farmers have saved their grain with little loss and they may justly feel proud pf their prospects, Mr, Npice, Mr, Griffith's son-in-law, who has come up from his home near Kingman, to harvest his grain here, foil and ran the prong of a pitchfork through his hand. He returned home last Wednesday, The Rice county jail has been con demned by Judge Houk on accqunt of its extreme unhealthfulness, and the prisoners ordered to be confined in the Barton county jail, until pther arrangements can be made.

The editor and assistant are under everlasting obligations to Miss Gprtie and Nettie Spiers for some magniffi-cient cherries raised on the farm of Dr. Spiers, They are the finest cherries we have had the pleasure pf eating in the state pf Kansas. The next meeting of the Ripe coun ty Teachers Association, is culled to meet at Lyons Thursday evening at eight o'clock, July 10th. All persons interested in educational work will be welcpmed at this meeting and all retired teachers will find the njeeting interesting and profitable, Judge Thachor has written letter to A. B- Campbell withdrawing his name from being used in connection with the office of governor.
