B. CALNAN, M. D. Physician Surgeon, Powhattan, Kansas. complimentary to this young noble institution, and the Christian faculty.

Each one of the students presented a maturely prepared oration onpopular subjects of modern and historic times, brim full of patriotic, philantropic and scholarly expressions and information; in fact the exercises would have been lauded as' an honor to a college commencement not more than twenty years ago. By results so apparent we may judge of the quality and quantity of instruction imparted to students who are given the opportunity of attending such a school. "By their fruits ye shall know them." The recent Commencement is the third one I attended in five years; with one of our children graduating at each of these periods; hence may know something of what is being done and accomplished by this truly good institution of Brown conuty. Perhaps had I not thus came in contact with the Academy through ouj children, I might be ignorant or indifferent in regard to its ennobling standard. I take great delight therefore, in commending the work and surroundings to other parents who have young people to be educated right.

In tin's connection I would like to write somethtng of real worth of the faculty; but my aim is to only write a short letter, I will simply say of the two whom I know best, Prof. L. E. Tupper, Piincipal, and Miss Kiner, that it is always a pleasure to meet them either in the Academy, on the street, in their homes or as a visiting guest in our home. Try to form their acquaintance and you will enjoy it.

Between the hours of two and three on Conv mencement day, an other very interesting ceremony was planned and carried out. It was the laying of the corner stone for the new dormitory on the Academy Campus. The ceremony was in the hands of Prof. Tupper. He first called on Rev.

J. B. Richardson for a brief statement. Mr. Richardson, stated how the dormitory funds were given by Mr.

and Mrs. Hoover.s will for that purpose, and how Mr. C. H. Janes added another amount, all in feeling, tender, touching words.

Ex-Governor Morrill followed with an account of how he first met Mr. Hoover in his blacksmith shop out on the Walnut, and how he and Mrs. Hoover earned the money by hard knocks that is now to benefit the young people of the present time. They too, were words most feelingly and fittingly spoken. Mr L.
