Historical society TOPEKA KID The Chapman Aheadlight VoL. I CHAPMAN, ANNOUNCEMENT I take this opportunity to announce to the public that I have purchased the Dowling Bros. Garage and will continue the business at the same location for the present. I will commence soon the erection of a modern garage and machine shop on my lot north of the tracks. I will be pleased to have you call and get acquainted.

I respectfully solicit a part of your business and guarantee satisfaction. CHAS. JACOBS Lutheran Ladies' Sale, Dinner and Supper. The Lutheran ladies have prepared an unusually large and fine supply of articles for their spring Bazaar which is to be held at the city hall on next Friday night, April 6th. Krause of Herington announces as a candidate for the Republican nomination for sheriff. H. A. Koogle home at high noon on Tuesday, March 30th, when Miss Pearl Koogle, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. H.

A. Koogle, was united in holy matrimony with Mr. William Rohrer of Caldwell, Idaho. The father of the bride officieted at the ceremony, and was assisted by Rev. I.

B. Heisey, the pastor of the local Lutheran church. The ring ceremony was used, the ring being carried in a narcissus by the bride's little niece, Rosalyn Ruth Koogle. Preceding the ceremony Miss Hazel Koogle, sister of the bride, sang "Because," by Edward Teschmacher, after which Lohengrin's wedding march was played. The guests were the immediate family of the bride, with Mr.

and Mrs. Geo. Roggendorff and family and Rev. E. Mortensen of Fremont, as out-of-town guests.

Mr. Roggendorff is a brother of the groom. The bride grew to womanhood in this community and for eleven years was employed as bookkeeper and stenographer by the late M. P. Sanborn.

For the last two years she has been employed as secretary at the State Deaf Institute located at Vancouver, Washington. The groom served for a year in the American army in France and has also seen service on the Mexican border. After the congratulations a three-course dinner was served. Many and useful gifts were received by the bride and groom. The bride and groom left for Lawaence, Kansas, and vicinity, but will make their home at Caldwell, Idaho, where the groom does irrigated farming.

Rohrer- Koogle. Dowling Bros. Sell Out. This week a deal was closed whereby Chas. Jacobs of Upland purchased the garage and repair shop and also two residence properties and one vacant lot from Dowling Bros.

Mr. Jacobs, for several years, has been one of our successful farmers, but recently sold his farm to J. W. Geist. Mr.

Jacobs had several locations offered him but after investigation decided that Chapman was the best town that he could find, so he purchased Dowling Bros. garage and will move his family here in the near future. He will build a modern garage building on the lot east of the Chapman hotel, and when this building is completed Chapman will have one of the best garages on the Golden Belt road in this part of the state. Dowling who have lived here practically all their lives, and have been in the garage business here for the past fifteen years, will probably locate in Salina. We are sorry indeed to see these business men leave Chapman, but Salina needs some good automobile men, and when we are getting a man like Mr.

Jacobs we can afford to let them go. Mr. Jacobs has taken charge of the business and will appreciate your patronage. J. R.

Bennett, real estate agent, made the deal. Old Settler of Enterprise Dead. Mr. David Henry Hellman, aged 80 years, died at his home Monday morning at Enterprise. He had resided in Enterprise for over thirty years and is survived by his wifs and several children.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon and burial in Enterprise cemetery. Miss Elizabeth Kelly spent Sunday with home folks. To Our Patrons and Friends Having sold our business and homes to Chas. Jacobs, who will continue the business in the future, we take this opportunity to thank our many friends for their liberal patronage during the past fifteen years. We will consider it a personal favor, and hope you will give our successor the same liberal patronage you have given us.

After attending the Woodbine schools and the Abilene business college he came to Herington about five years ago and entered the employ of the the Rock Island.

At the outbreak of the war between the United States and Germany he enlisted in Company I and later went to France and had a prominent part in the splendid record that company made. John Krause is a splendid young man, as clean as a hound's tooth, is capable in every way of filling the position of sheriff and has many friends who will work and hope for his success at the Elmo Store Robbed. The Elmo Mercantile store was robbed Sunday night of $400 in goods. No trace of robbers. James Dunlop Dead.

James Dunlop, one of the leading citizens of Detroit and long a resident there, died Saturday morning. He was highly respected and had many friends. was a good neighbor, always doing anything his hands found to do. His many deeds for others will live on. His helpmeet died about four years ago.

He leaves four children -one son, John, and three daughters, Mrs. Hattie Sanquist of Enterprise, Mrs. Jessie Anderson of Detroit, and Mrs. Eva McIntosh of Seattle, Wash. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, March 29, and the remains laid to rest in the Bethel cemetery.
