Oscol a Pooler, appeared before a rather small but appreciative audience in the new opera house last Friday evening. By special request she changed her program and gave Chas. Klein's, "The Music Master." Those who heard her this time and four years ago, when she appeared here jn a similar role, pronounced her much stronger, having a much wider range and scope of dramatic ability. She is very pleasing as a reader and an entertainer and her return dat will be eagerly looked forward to. Miss Martha Sparks came up from Kansas City to spend Christmas with her parents here.

Granted A Scholarship. A scholarship was granted last Saturday, at the Uneversity of Kansas, to Miss Lucy Huff, of this place Miss Huff is a sophomore in the school of liberal arts at the Uniuersity. The scholarship is that given by George Innes of Lawrence in honor of his wife and is known as the Eliza Mat. thewson fund Miss Huff will receive $150 a year for her college education. There were hix applicants for the scholarship.

Miss Huff is an except- E. J. Lat'tenr the new proprietor of the Wadick Bros, hardware stock, is makir-g extensive improvements in the building. Shelving will be built along the entire south side and the partition will be taken from the center of the building and the two rooms made into one large one. Jan.
