At the memorial service last Saturday night the following was passed us the sense of tho lodgo in memoriam of J. R. Tripp: It is proper that a few moments bo set apart in commemoration of our late departed brother, J. R. Tripp.

He was belter than tho average of men. lie was a positivo man. So one ever asked of him a favor or a business transaction, if he could do it, it was done as free as the air, if he could not, the no, was as clear as ever camo from the lips of man. He never gave any one an indirect or an evasive answer if he knew and in his every action, we can but commend. We see Brother Tripp, a young inau in the pride and strength of manhood. We see him in decline. We see him away towards the setting sun in his far western home, the sands of life running, running, and none to replace. Like the rose, dying upon the stalk, like a burning taper upon the pedestal whose flame is sinking lower and lower, but a breath that severs the tie that binds to earth; awaiting that inevitable hour. This city lost a man of sterling worth and integrity, true to his friends, just to those with whom he did not agree.

Unity Lodge, Number '270, of the Independent. Order of Odd Fellows, has lost its founder. In his regular attendance upon its meetings, the many stations he occupied in this lodge, his council was timely and just, his influence for good is apparent. Peace and harmony prevailed within its borders.
