Kracher several days this week. Miss Lydia Gugeler. from near Woodbine, was up, Sunday, visiting her parents. Go to Jno. Latto for all kinds of first-class lumber and all the leading brands coal.

Mesdames Wm P'oister and R. L. Kirkpatrick were in Abilene Monday afternoon. R. O.

Shadinger, of Abilene was shaking hands with old acquaintances here. Saturday. Mr. Julius Waterstradt and Jacob Lantz were guests of G. M.

Beltz Wednesday evening. Miss Cavia has returned from her home in Lawrence and resumed her duties in the public schools. Jacob Lantz purchased the Rychener property from Mr. Buhrer. The bargain was completed on Monday last.

George Merillat expects some very good meals after this, as he has just made a purchase of a fine cook book for his wife. O. Lord, deliver us from these amateur poets. Our waste basket is full to overflowing, and still they come. David L.

Carl McRill started for A trip to the west, last Saturday, but fell sick at Wichita, and is in the hospital there at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. Smith, of Abilene, and Mesdames Blatherwick and Maudebill, of Salina, visited with Mr and Mrs. W.

H. Staatz over Sunday. There were 7,200 eggs brought into Poister's store last Saturday, and it wasn't much of a day for eggs, either. In the Klondyke they would have cost $2.400. Spring is here.

E. church here for the past two years, has been appointed to preach at Wilsey. Morris county. for the ensuing year. His friends here wish him success in his new field.

A passenger on the southbound Rock Island train, Saturday, became suddenly demented, near Herington. and drew a gun and cleared out the smoking car. Before he could be captured he left the train and escaped. Mr. and Mrs.

F. Gugeler shipped a car load of very toppy hogs yesterday morning. A McPherson county girl recently married a man named liven. She is certainly getting close to Heaven. Julias Waterstradt shot four wild geese at one shot a few days ago.

Saturday, to Albert J. Young of Abilene. Harvey Kohler of Herington spent several days with his parents last week. He expects to leave for Colorado soon for his health. It is said that no man truly acquires fame uutil a brand of cigars is named for him.

Then his name is in everybody's mouth. W. J. Conover, representing the Sharples company, manufacturers of creamery machinery, was doing business in this city, Friday. If half the rumored new trains are put 011 the railroads running through here, it will take a lot of revising in the present time cards.

News of the city election to be held next week is very quiet. Emmett Hoffman is said to be running like a race horse, for mayor, and is sure to be elected. It has been frequently stated that the big packing houses have their system of working up port products down so fine that everything ing to his hogship is used in some way except the squeal. D. Shaffer, of Grace Reformed church of Abilene, who recently preached at the school house in this city, will deliver another sermon at the same place next Sunday at 2:30 p. m. Rev. Shaffer is a forceful speaker, and will no doubt have as good an audience as on the former occasion.

The Dickinson County News of Abilene published last week a very creditable illustrated write-up of the Dickinson county poor farm. one of the best in the state. The products of the farm very nearly paid all expenses last year, and besides making the best place to care for the county's indigent inhabitants, it will soon be a source of profit to the county. The band boys came down 011 main street, Tuesday evening, and tooted 'em up a little. The boys have only been practicing a short time, but already show evidence of good musical ability, and we hope they will be in shape to give open air concerts this summer.

Our citizens should give them plenty of encouragement. The W. C. T. U.

The annual meeting of the Enterprise Tennis club will be held at the office of J. D. Riddell. next Monday evening. All members are requested to be present.

The Epworth League gave a social in honor of Rev. N. J. Adams, I last evening, at the residence of Mrs. J.

F. Staatz. About thirty -five members of the league were present, and an enjoyable evening was spent. Rev. Adams will preach his farewell sermon here next Sunday morning, and at Woodbine in the evening.

He goes to Wilsey for the next year. There came near being a panic in the public schools when the fire bell rang, Tuesday. Some shouted that the school house was on fire, and it was necessary to lock the pupils in some of the rooms to prevent the rush. The teachers were all ready to give the order to march out in form when the report was declared false, and the fire located some distance from the school house. This system of daily drilling and marching in and out to time is a good thing in such instances.

A very interesting meeting of the Dickinson and Geary county teachers was held at Chapman last Satur-1 day afternoon. In the evening the Thalian Dramatic club delivered the fifth number of the lecture course, to the edification of the teachers and others. Professor Ambrose of the Enterprise schools was present and took part in the afternoon program. A strong evidence of the increasing value of Dickinson county land was brought forcibly to our notice this week. A gentleman from a state east of here was looking over the county for some "cheap" pasture land.

He concluded that land was no lower in price, for the same quality, than in Iowa or Illinois. Two more big fish have been pulled out of the Smoky Hill river at this place in the past week. One weighed 31 pounds, the other a little more than 40 pounds. Our sportsmen intend to have the stream stocked with bass and other game fish this summer, and they are trying to clear the stream of whales and octopuses, so the little fellows will have some show for life. Election Proclamation. The regular annual election of the city of Enterprise, Kansas, will occur on the first Monday in April, being April 2, 1100, at which election the following officers will be voted for: Mayor. Five Councilmen. Police Judge. City Clerk.
