and 5 p. m. i( Fort Scott Monitor: The farmers in the vicinity Redfield are somewhat excited and very muoh elated over the discovery of an apparently strong vein of coal oil on the farm of M. W. Turner who reside three miles southwest of that city.

Mr. Turner, who is a well to do farmer, was drilling for water when at a depth of about nineteen feet he noticed a strong flow of gas and caused the tools to be pulled from the well. In a few hours the hole had filled completely up with oil which upon examina tion proves to be good quality. A great deal of the neighboring property had been leased to different oil companies and it is expeoted that one of them will sink a well in the vicinity some time this month. MEMORIAL SERVICES.

The Memorial Services at the M. church last Sunday morning was by far the largest demonstration of the kind ever witnessed in Kincald. There were about thirty old soldiers In line. This with the Sons of Veterans, tho Bebekah Lodge, Good Templars and Workmen made quite a procession. About fifty chairs had been borrowed from the Baptist church and the house was packed, even on the platform and in the vestibule.

The sermon was preached by the pastor and was highly appreciated by all the old soldiers. There is, and should be, a growing interest in these exercises of honor to the memory of our Nation's heroes both dead and alive.
