We regret to state that appearances aftentimes point that way, but young man don't be deceived. Brabe up and be a man among men, for your sake if not for the sake of your relatives and friends. Such is life in the far west. It affords one great pleasure to drive down to Mr. G.

S. Cloyd's beautiful farm and inspect his fine btmch of Herefords. They are beauties, and if we mistake not, are the first bunch of thoroughbreds ever brought to this neighborhood. His bull is a monster, and will surely tip the beam at 2500 lbs when in good condition. Mr.

Cloyd delights in handling good, first-class stock and takes pleasure in showing visitors and neighbors the superiority of the Herefords. Parties interested in stock raising should not fail to inspect his stock. The Kingman Daily News now publishes full telegraphic reports every morning. By the way, the News is rapidly coming to the front as one of the leading dailies in great southwest. It is brimful of spicy, newsy reading matter, independent as a hog on ice, and as neat and bright looking every morning as a crisp new bank note.

Kingman can well afford to support such a creditable representative of its growth and Long may she live. 'A representative of the Ft. Scott pioneer nursery, lost a ten dollar bill on the depot platform the other day. It was found by station agent Igou and returned to the gentleman, who reciprocated in a handsome manner by the presentation of a beautiful pair of sleeve buttons to the finder as an appreciation of honesty. Mrs.

M. A. Hoffman, of Wellsford, wa3 visiting her sister, Miss Mollie Grimes, of this township, last week, returning home Sunday. The ladies favored The Herald with a pleasant call while in the city one day last week, which was highly appreciated. We are very partial to lady calleis.

Mr. D. II. Rhodes, Chief engineer informs us that he has orders from headquarters to immediately construct the K. P.

W. from Cullison to Greens-burg, and has already made requisition for sufficient material over $300,000 worth. Should this be promptly furnished the cars will reach Greensburg by June. Ex. Mr.

and Mrs. Phil Weiss drove to Kingman last Friday evening in order to catch the outgoing morning train for Empoiia. They left in response to a telegram announcing the serious illness of Mrs. Weiss' aged father, requesting them to come at once, his death being hourly expected. Dr.

Saturday morning the ice was broken by a light shower of fully two hours duration, followed by another and heavier rain that continued throughout Monday night and at intervals during the morning. Only the uplands were effected by the dry weather, the first and second bottum lands were still in fair condition for plowing. Baker has been indisposed for several days past. He is rapidly recovering his agility under the care of Dr. Cloyd. Prairie fires have been numerous this spring in this section of the state. In some instances considerable damage was done.

Stokesberry and Miss Shellie Brooks, attended the literary at Bross last Friday evening. They report a good time going and coming. Fruit tree men say that Ninnescah is the best point by far for cash deliv-erys than any town in the southwest. This is easily accounted for.
