The Midland Medicine Concert company has gone, bag and baggage, taking with them out of this community about $2,000 in clean cash and leaving a lot of ineflicacious, but probably harmless, nostrums widely circulated among the infatuated people. The manager of the company understood the art of advertising, bowever, and it was by a liberal and judicious 1190 of printars' ink that they were enabled to gather the crowds to whom they sold their worthless potions. By the way, if judicious advertining will enable a 11911 to sell a worthless thing what effeut would it have on the sale of good article? We are glad to learn that those gentlemen who own property in Burns and who refused to take their home paper bave subr scribed for a paper that does not care whether Burns lives or dies. Such work as this would discourage a saint. When a man comes to a town the size of Burns and tries to do what be the town by publishing a paper, he deserves the hearty support of everybody, and the man is a white rat that won't support him.

A continual coughing is very annoying to persons sitting near you in any kind of a gathering; besides, it is of great damage to the throut and lungs, and is exceedingly dangerous at this season of the year. Haverhill Hints. J. E. Remsberg, the apostle of Infidelity discoursed to a goodly audience Saturday night. His subject, "The Fathers of Our Republic," was comfined to Washington, Franklin, Jefferson and Paine.

He credited Paine with the authorship of our form of government--that is in the conception, while Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, Washington was the hero statesman and Franklin the diplomat. But his lecture was devoted te a discussion of their religious beliefs. He started out by stating that christianity claimed, Washington, Jefferson and Franklin and devoted himself assiduously, to a refutation of this alleged claim. But, while he was demonstrating, that Jefferson did not believe in the Jesus of the New Testament nor the God of the Old, and yet that he believed in a a God, he did not enlighten his hearers, as to why he or any Deist believed in any other God. Neither is it probable that his believing auditors, are ready to discard their bibles and their faith in a revealed, risen and reigning Redeemer, for the theeries of Thomas Paine, or Thomas Jefferson.

Among Our County Exchanges: What is the matter with organizing a Butler county press association? There are upwards of a dozen newspapers in Butler county and there are many points erganized effort might accomplish a great deal. The farmers have an alliance to proteet themselves against middle men; why should not the editors organize to protect themselves against fraudulent advertising agencies, circus dead beats, subscribers who refuse their papers, bum printers and other things that make the business a living perdition for the men engaged in it. What do you say, Editors Sutterthwaite, Noe, Copeland, Riley, Cady, how about it, Augusta News, Whitewater Tribune, and Tewanda Herald. What do you We are for it. say call the boys together, organize, set up the free lunch, interchange ideas and let us have an editors' alliance, It would seem that the Butler county editors did not catch onto the Harrison administration in the right place.

Not one of them has been appointed postmaster in any of our flourishing towns. It looks as if it is only the editors of the large size papers that are, recognized under the present Democrat. That's the way you look at it. To us it appears as though the El Dorado Republican controled the El Dorado postofice, the El Dorado Times the Douglass pestoffice, the railroad mail route on the Douglass branch, and is kicking because it was ignored in reference to the Caldwell postofice; the Signal succeeded in turning the appointee out of the Latham postofice; Charley Nos could not have afforded to have held the Leon postoffice if he could have got it, the Augusta papers await the expiration of the democrat's term in that city. If there had been two postofices at this place we feel assured that the Tribune man could have had the smaller one.
