Eliza Campbell Dead. Died, at the residence of her sister Mrs. L. J. Wiard, last Friday even ing, January 20th.

1900, Mrs. Eliza Campbell, aged 70 years, months and 27 days. Mrs. Campbell had been sick for nearly two years with heart trouble and other complications, but was able to be up and around a good deal of the time. A week ago last Monday she was brought to De Soto Her suffering during the last few days of her life was intense, but she knew and talked to those around her until 1:30 Friday when she became unconscious aud lingered in that con dition uutil ten minutes past seven, when she breathed her last.

All that loving hands and medical skill could do was done, but the disease had reached a stage where nothing could give relief. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church Monday morning at ten o'clock. Rev. Fisher read a portion of the 15th chapter of 1st Corinthians, alter which he made a tew appropriate remarks, taking for his text Prov, 27:1: "Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth." The body was then laid to rest in the De Soto cemetery. lhe family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in thuir be reavement.

Eliza Gibbs was born in Jefferson county, East Tennessee, April 29, 1829. When 18 years ot age she came with her parents to Adams county, llliuois, where, about 154, she married James Thompson. To them were born five chidren, and they lived very happily together until 1808 when the husband and father was called away by death. At this time they lived near Vandalia, Illinois, but after his demise, she re turned to Adams county. After a few years she married John Campbell, and shortly after removed to Bates county, Mo.

She lved there about hftcen years, during which time Mr. Campbell died, hi 1885 she went to Meade county, Kansas, where she homesteaded some and which she still owned at the time of her death. She came to Johnson county Nov. 1, 1890, and February of tne fol lowing year moved to what is known as the ilalleck farm on Cedar Creek, five miles northwest of Olathe, and remained there until last spring, when she moved to the Cook place about three miles southwest of this lace. She was a loving mother and sis ter, and a good, kind-hearted neighbor and friend, and had made many friends in this community who will be sorry to learn of her death.

Ihree of her children were present at the funeral, Grenade, from near Olathe, Charles who has alwavs ived with his mother, and Mrs. Mary Edwards, of Englewood, vansas. One sister and tour broth ers survive her: Mrs. L. J.

Wiard, and James T. Gibbs of this place, Gideon, of Kansas City, Moses, of Thayer, Iowa, and Thomas, of Fair-port, Kansas. $50 Reward! Notice is hereby given that there is now on deposit in the Patron's Oo-Operativc Bank in Olathe 50, which will be promptly paid to any one furnishing evidence leading to the arrest aud conviction of any, who, in Lexington township, Johnson county, Kansas, at any lime within two months preceding Jan. 15, 1900, violated the Kansas Prohibitory Law, or who shall, after Jan. 15, 1900, violate in said township, said law, whether by keeping a joint; by "bootlegging;" by selling without a druggist's permit; by "taking by renting or owning a building in which intoxicating liquors are sold or given away illegally; or by committing perjury in making affidavit false in any material to secure intoxicating liquors; and also for evidence leading to con viction of any witness, who in the trial of a liquor case in or from Lexington township, commits perjury.

Beecroft D. Fickman handwd us a copy of the Troy (Idaho) Weekly News of Jan. 19, which contain an account of the burning of the Forest hotel of that place. The loss is about 81,000, partially covered by insurance. This building was owned by I).

M. Eekman, of Moscow, Idaho. Mr. Eckman is an old De Soto boy, and has many friends here who are sorry to learn of his loss. The paper states that he intends rebuilding at once, and we wish him better eucccss in the future.
