Assessment No. 4 for the Harrison Mutual Burial Association is called in the death of Mrs. as. Cassin. Dues should be paid on or before De-cember20.

READY. The Hepler school children are rehearsing for Saturday evening Come one, come everybodp and enjoy Xmas with the childien. A ladder will be the feature instead of the old time tree. There will be a committee at the church all clay Saturday to receive the presents and take care of them. Adults ten cents admisson.

Albert Seltsam met with a runaway accident early Monday morning. His team was under the viaduct leading to the dump at Thompson's elevator when another team was going up to the dump. The noise above frightened the team below and it ran away, going up Main street and turning west at the blacksmith shop. At this place one horse fell which hindered the other horse from going any farther. No damage was done except that one horse was slightly bruised.

Two weeks ago D. M. Whitehead shipped a fine Polled Durham bull to W. C. and G.

H. Schultz, Concordia. Mo. He shipped another one to Spearville in the western part of this state last week. Mr.

Whitehead has a large herd of thouroughbred cattle and we are e-Iad to note that he is finding markets for them all over the country. Monday is Christmas day and of course the children are all anxious to know what Santa Claus will bring them. The good crops the past season is the cause for an immence Christmas shopping. Misses Ina and Gladys Inmau were in Walnut Saturday. Miss Martha Hardin is staying with Mrs. Chambers east of Hepler. Mr. Yohe lost a fine horse Sunday.

The operat ion for the removal of the left eye of Mrs. Sally Barry was successfully preformed yesterday morning at Dr. Bunion's sanitarium, and the patient is in excellent condition. Consentof relatives in Tulsa, I. T.

Miss Anna Koehler has been working for Mrs. Wolverton for the last two weeks. Left over from last week. Mrs. Dale and fami'y visited at Mr.

Fox's Sunday. Chas. Jones and family visited at Mr. Gier's the first of the week. There will be a box supper at Dist.

31 school house on Friday night, December 22. Everyone is invited to come and the ladies please bring a box and the boys please do not forget your pocket-books. Miss Tilda Blake, Teacher. The party at Mrs. Bundy's Saturday night was quite a success.

Accidentally Shot. J. B. Gardner attended the injured man Girard Press. This section of the country was visited by nice little snow Wednesday night which reminds us more of Christmas weather than the weather we have been having the past few weeks. The snow was general throughout the eastern part of the state.

Ben H.Bwgg Pardoned. Hen H. Bugg, who was sent to the state penitentiary from Crow ford county in for stealing a can of lard from M. Castlebeery, of Osage township, has had his sentence commuted by Gov. Hoch and been released.

The Leavenworth Post states that a letter from Ruth Bugg, his nine-year old sister, caused the governor to act. She said that her big brother was needed at home: that unless he could come pretty soon their father and mother would not live to see him. "Both of them have to have the doctor," said the little girl, and the doctor says that no medicine he can give them will do them as much good as to have Ben home again. They are almost heart-broken. Please Mr.

T. Chaney, of Stark, was in the city Thursday. I. C. Culbertson is recovering from the injuries he received a few week ago.

Miss Tille Meyer, of Brazilton, spent Saturday and Sunday in the city. Rev. Taylor will preach at the M. E. church Sunday morning and evening.

E. Chichester and son Fred, of Cherryvale, visited the fore part of the week with Frank Chichester and wife. Boyer Fantz, of Hepler, was in the city Monday on his way home from Girard where he had been visiting. Mrs. R.

A. Beck, of Stark, was in the city Thursday on her way to Girard. While here she was the guest of Mrs. R. A.

Parker. J. A. Carlton is building an addition to the house on his farm south of this city where Fred Lydick and family reside. Mr.

Greenwell is doing the carpenter work. A son was born to Mr. and Ma. Grath McNeil at Winfield December 12. The mother is the daughter of Mrs.

Sarah Fantz of this city who has been visiting in Winfield for several weeks. Wesley Tucker, who went into the state of Washington last spring and later returned and worked in Western Kansas, returned home Perry Damerell, a son of E. Dam-erell of this city, who is an engineer on the Santa Fe with headquarters at Chanute, has gone to Kansas City to be treated for a cancer on his face. Postmaster J. M.

Guff is in receipt of the following from the Post Office Department: "This Department lias designated your postoffice as one of a number of additional International Money Order offices, to he designated at the beginning of the next quarter, Tuesday, January 2, 1906." who opened a grocery store in the Romp building a few months sold his stock to J. A. Carlton last week. It was the only exclusive grocery store in the city and while he had an excellent line of the trade perhaps did not justify continuing the business. Uncle Joe Boyle resigned his position at this office the first of the week on account of ill health and Miss Mary Parker has taken his place.

"Uncle Joe" as he is called by everyone is getting quite old and the bad weather has compelled hi'ii to remain at home. A. L. Worley went to Girard Tuesday to attend the marriage of his niece, Mattie Morse, to Mr. Jessie Shatnbarger.

of Medicine Lodge. Another niece, Miss Pearl Clark, of Medicine Lodge, who visited Mr. Worley last week, went to Girard the first of the week to be present at the marriage. The first accident resulting from the icy walks Wecnesday morning was that of J. K.

Brant- He slipped and fell on his wrist and elbow. Uis injuries were quite serious but he is getting along very well now. He will be S( years of age January i. Of course he is too young to hold honors of old age in this city but 86 is quite an old age. While in Hepler Monday called on our old friend, H.

The merchants of Walnut, Hepler and Brazilton handle them almost exclusively- John Slusser and family who have resided sonth of this city for the past few years left for California Sunday.
