Elder Cloever preached aud there was a good attendance. Mrs. William Iumau gave a big dinner in honor of his lirst birthday since their mnrriago and it proved quite a success. She called it au old folks diuuer. We all enjoyed it very much.

In his introductory speech on the street last Saturday he gave his pedigree and claimed to be one fourth Indian, one fourth Spanish, ono fourth French and ono fourth dog, but principly dog. From tho fact that Polico Chief Clayton, of Pittsburg, was here to arrest hi in for procuring a ladles gold watch and a gentlemans gold watch under false pre! on so, and that ho failed to pay Texas Bill his wages duo him, and that he left his landlord, Daniel Plum, in the lurch for his board bill, and that his priiw ter's bill remains unpaid, we are in Coal cash on delivery. John Aludd had a horso to die with tho blind stuggeis tho first of the week. Thursday evening Nick Salrin ro ceivod a telegram that his mother, who resides in Ohio, had died. J. P. Graves will be in the city for the next week to bujT rags, iron bones, and to repair stoves.

C. G. Ledhe will start the first of the week for Portland, Oregon to look at the country, and if he likes it will probably send for his family. Nick Salrin has been granted a pension of $12 per month. Mr.

Salrin did good services for ins country and justly deserves every dollar he is getting. Last Monday Squire A rnold, of Neosho county, brought four hogs to town that weighed 2,180 pounds. Squire is agood farmer. Wm. McClay, of Baldwin City was here this week, lie strongly intimated that Baldwin is one of the best cities he was ever in, and that Baker University far surpassed his expectations. About a dozen of our citizens went over to Girard last Wednesday having been invited by Deputy Sheriff Adsit to tell what they knew about the selling of intoxicants in Walnut. The meeting at the II.

E. church continues to grow in interest. The church is filled to its utmost capacity every night, notwithstanding the bad condition of the roads.
