Mr. Moon, of Stillwater, is in town assisting in selling the Minnesota Chief threshing machines. The Woodbine Hardware Co. is building an addition to their store 18 x50 feet, to be used as a warehouse. Mrs.

Humpfeldt and her son, Kev. Hermann Humpfeldt, started for Nebraska last week to see a son and brother who is expected to die. He was kicked by a horse and severely injured. Mr. J.

F. Junicke returned last week from a trip to Hillsboro, where he visited his friends and attended to some business. He intends to move his family here as soon as a suitable dwelling can be- found. Rev. Chas.

Heidel, P. of Belleville, 111., visited his brothers-in-law, Messrs. Fengel, last week. Elder Heidel is an old Kansas man, having settled in this State over 30 years ago He organized the Lyona German M. E.

church north-east of here, in April 1858. Some people seem to have an idea that a preacher has less to do than any other man in a community, but allow us to state that it is a serious mistake. Each of our five appointment seems of sufficient importance to require all our time and attention, but, as it can only spend a short time in each weekly. Woodbine looks now more promising in a religious respect than ever. Attendance at church and Sunday School is increasing, and a lively interest is felt.

The people here are highly moral, but we are in hopes that many of them are also finding the one thing needful, viz: Religion. Enterprise is, it seems, on a religious boom. The church is too small to accommodate the people, and an addition is being spoken of. Our Sunday School here had an attendance of 163 the other day. The best sign, however, is the large and interesting prayer meetings attendance about 100.

Next Sunday night wre shall introduce a question box for inquiry by the audience concerning religious matters. Fairview Church is a very pleasant What's the matter with Woodbine She's all right. Mr. Henry Fengle and daughters went to Herington last week. Herman Mitch and family paid a visit to Enterprise last Wednesday.

Mr. Peter Fengel was summoned to be on a jury at the county seat, and had to report for duty last Monday morning. An ice-cream festival was held by the ladies of the M. E. church last Thursday evening, and a good time is reported.

Janicke Bros, have bought a new supply of first-class dry goods, and will be prepared to. supply you at the lowest prices. The semi-annual election of officers of Sparta lodge took place Tuesday of last week at the K. P. hall.

The lodge is reported in a prosperous condil ion. little society, and tne times we spend here are always refreshing and full A little wanderer came into town last Sunday. A little boy about nine of blessings. Last Sunday we preached a memorial sermon here, and had the pleasure of addressing a number of gray-haired veterans. Carlton's last service was but slim-ly attended because of the heavy rain We noticed with a great deal of satisfaction that several of those in attendance had come a distance of about four miles through the storm.

Our host, Mr. Watts, treated us with so much hospitality and kindness that we are tempted to do like the tramps and leave a mark on the gate and return soon. Eureka school house was supplied last week by our friend Rev. C. G.

Bear, while we responded to a very urgent invitation of the Abilene Y. M. C. A. and spoke to them a short time on the subject of "A Hard Case." In spite of very unfavorable weather, the house was well filled and good work was done by all the boys.

The boy's name is Bates and he is an orphan, his mother dying when he was an infant, and his father dying of consumption a short time ago. The boy was left by his father to the care of a neighbor who piomised to raise him.

According to his story the man whipped him so that he finally ran away, and succeeded in making his way from Colorado to this place in search of a home. A much talked about event took place on Decoration Day. The Enterprise and Woodbine base ball clubs crossed bats and much anticipation was cherished on both sides. Enterprise indulged in the belief that some Herington professionals had been imported, but our boys meant fail play and would not stoop to such actions. The local nine did well in the field and could easily hold Enterprise level in that regard.

The Enterprise pitcher and catcher however were too much for the boys, as they had not been having enough practice. Our friends, the enemy, are regarded as champions of the county, and Woodbine did well to make the tallies she did. We'll try you again later. The game was witnessed by many from the neighboring towns and surrounding COUntry- Rev. Humpfeldt, formerly of this place, has returned from his trip to reports his brother who was kicked by a horse, in a hopeful condition.

The Woodbine Hardware Co. is selling a great many binders, mowers and threshing machines, and the young, energetic members of the firm are wearing smiles upon their faces. The game of croquet is becoming quite the rage in Woodbine. Two yards are in full blast up town, and many private sets are scattered through town and neighborhood. If WToodbine is behind on base ball, she gets there on croquet Mr.

Grant Gillett, who is now attending school at Sedalia, is soon expected home. The last report from him says that he is suffering from an attack of the mumps..
