John A. Anderson will address the people at Keystone, Tuesday evening, Sept. 14th, at 8 o'clock. Onr farmers report the hay crop very light. Rsv.

Madison has been quite sick, but is now much better. The Hope Herald says a dozen buildings are in course of erection in that flourishing city. The Methodists of Herington will dedicate their new church, Sunday, September 19th. Dr. Fisher, of Topeka, will deliver the sermon.

Anderson will have meetings in this County, next week at the following places: Industry, Keystone, Iliff school house and Solomon City. of our citizens are taking in the Saline County fair.

A correspondent writing of Mr. Walton's death from Clay Center, says: "The entire city is draped in mourning. The entire people, rich and poor, are b6wed with sorrow at the loss of their mayor, and their grief is ten-fold greater owing to the fact that Mayor Walton had of late taken up the fight for the people's rights. Our hero declared in a voice of thunder, that he loved his people more than he did the iniquities of a party ring. The honest principles which have ever been in his breast declared their superiority as with all his might, power and patriotic spirit he was fighting a hard fight to maintain the rights of the people.

Are my eyes bedim med with tears, or is it imagination? Me-thinks I see the tear drops coming from the old flag-staff as it stands at half-mast. The Country's flag was Walton's pet. The self-same staff, which has many times held forth the banner with the pride of the giant oak, now bows its head in mourning for its old master. Words fail to utter the grief of our town and county. Although death has taken him from his words, his deeds and his example are still in our minds.

Curts, of the Chapman Star, was among our visitors this week. Heck is proving a No. 1 newspaper man and is making an excellent paper of the Star. The County Commissioners have submitted a proposition to the voters of Lyon Township to vote 132,000 in bonds to the Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska railroad. The election will be held Oct. nth.

ANNOUNCEMENT. We are authorized to announce D. Wilson as a candidate for Clerk of the District court, subject to the decision of the Republican county convention. The Union Pacific is running a special train to Bismarck this It leaves Abilene at 6:50 in the morning and reaches here on its return trip at 11:50 in the evening. The fare for the round trip is $3.05. Among our many callers this week was T. Hopkins, of the Enterprise Anti-Monopolist, a paper which is doing magnificent work in this campaign. It will be sent to any address until Anderson's election for the small sum of twenty-five cents.

Attention is called to F. B. Lilly new advertisement in another column. They have a fine stock and are selling at very close prices. The special attention of school officers is called to the fact that they are agents for the Victor school furniture.

A grand picnic will be held at Kirby's grove, one mile south of Industry, Friday, Sept. 17th. A union of seven Sabbath schools to hold the picnic. The order of the day will be speeches by several good speakers; also large swings and a good number of boats. A good time is expected.

Everybody come. One of the strongest and best firms in the State is the Berry Bros. Mercantile and no firm treats its patrons better than they do. They sell everything, and keep most ample assortments in all the various lines, and low prices are their rule. Give them your patronage and you will find that we are telling you the truth.

SCOTT. STOVER FEED GRINDER, Several our citizens went to Clay Center, Wednesday morning, to attend the funeral of Hon. Wirt W. Walton. The news of the time of the funeral was not received here until late Tuesday evening, so that but few knew of it until after the train had departed, and they read the announcement in the morning papers.
