The Abilene Wholesale Grocery company has sold out to the Watson, Durand, Kasper Wholesale Grocery company of Salina, after five years of business. The sale took place when W. W.

Watson and George Watson of Salina came here on invitation of the local company and closed the deal. The new owners have a lease on the building for six months and will maintain the local institution as a branch of of their prosperous Salina concern at least for that time. Later it will be decided what is to be the management of the Abilene house. F. E.

Nottorf, who has been manager of the Abilene concern for several years, will for the present remain in charge. "We had no idea of purchasing the business," said Mr. W. W. Watson is discussing the change, "until the stockholders came to us with their proposition.

We bought it solely as a business proposition and shall endeavor to give to Abilene just as good service as could be obtained from the maintenance of a local institution. The fact is it takes a large territory to make a wholesale grocery pay and we are trying to extend ours as rapidly as possible." The local managers give the same testimony. While there has been an earnest effort to establish a a growing concern it has been realized that with the wholesale houses in surrounding cities it was a difficult task. Abilene has patronized the local house less than it should but perhaps even its entire patronage would not have been sufficient to make it a paying institution. So its stockholders decided either to close out the stock or sell to some other institution.

The Watson, Durand, Kasper Co. is one of the largest wholesale grocery houses in the west and has a high standing among grocerymen everywhere. It is hoped that it will maintain the local institution as a branch of its Salina house and Abilene should endeavor to have this done. They are good people to have connected with a town. They are here for six months anyhow and it may be permanent.

It is of course a regret that the home institution could not prove profitable but it has been turned over to good Reflector. An Explosion. George Gibson had a narrow escape last Saturday night. His a- cetylene gas plant got out of order and he took a lantern and went to investigate, He did not locate the trouble, but when the smoke cleared away, George was minus eyebrows, hair, skin and part of his clothes. He was lucky to save Quo eyesight.

This is only another warning to people owning this kind of light plants that they cannot be to careful with them. INNOCENT CHILDREN ROBBED! And the sad part of it is, the deed was done by their own father. He built a new fence- and used wood posts. He could have bought American Steel Posts and had a fence that would have lasted for at least two generations. But no, "These will last as long as I want a fence, let those that come after me look out for themselves," he said.

Let us be charitable and think that he did not realize the enormity of the crime. Foster Lumber Yard MANCHESTER, KANSAS Notice. Twenty-one dollars were removed from drawer Saturday night or Sunday morning. Party is known. If returned immediately, matters will be dropped, if not will prosecute.
