AtAitkon, on April 2, at 4:15 o'clock, it became so dark that lights wero necessary in business houses, and the air was filled with snow that was as black and dirty as though it had been trampled into tho earth. This dirty snow fell to the depth of half an inch. Tho atmosphere at the time presented a peculiar greenish tinge.

There was a little wind blewing at the time from the northwest, though there seemed to be considerable wind higher in the air. One of tho saddest death scenes we ever witnessed occurred Thursday morning in Philllpsburg, in the death of Mrs. Nash. Death nt all times is sad, but when it finds one away from relatives and among strangers and deserted by the one who had promised in tho sight of God to nourish and protect, it then appears the saddest. Did jou ever stop to think of what tills Oklahoma boom would do for Kansas? Thousands of people from almost every state and territory and even from other countries, ore now flocking to the Promised Land; most of this emigration crossing Kansas soil to get there. They will notice our beautiful lands teeming with all that makes a great nation, they will return from the sun burnt, arid desert of Oklahoma and make homes by the thousands in Kansas.

Tliis fall will add thousands of people to our state by virtue alono of the Oklahoma craze. It takes no prophet to foresee this, it is the natural result of things and nothing can stop it. Almena is a nice place, we admit, real nice, but then the same may be said of a hairless dog.
