Some of our citizens are hoping that the oold weathor will last long enough to allow them to fill their ice bouses. Uncle Themes Oeanies, an aged and highly respected citizen living, south west of town, is reported very poorly; Messrs. J.

Sims and T. H. Moore shipped a valuable high-bred horse from Junction City to this place last week. On account of the unfavorable wea ther, Rev. Wni.

Boyle, of Hoxio, did not fill his appointment at the school ball Sunday evening. Some of our young people attended the literary at the school house in Dis trict 43, south-west of town, Wednes day evuing of last weok and exprussod themselvee as well pleased with thn exercises. Sunday' snow was gladly welcomed by those who have growing wheat and rye. The states of Nebraska and Dakota are drawn together. Aftor drawing Nebraska we extend the western boundary of Nebraska to the north 400 miles and have the western boundary of On-kota.

Then we draw tha northern boundary of Dakota, about 320 miles long. Now locate the mouth of tue big Sieux river, and connect with the north eastern corney of the state by a straight line. A little over halt way down this line locate Traverse' and Big Stone lakes. Draw the lted River of the North and Big Sioux rivers and boun dary between Dakota and Minnesota. You now have outline of Dakota.

Now connect narth-west corner of state with point where Missouri river first touohes Nebraska and draw tne Missouri. The Dakota river can be drawn by the Mis souri and Big Sioux rivers. Draw the Little Missouri Big Cheyenne and White rivers in the west and the Mouse river in the nerth. Locate Devil's Lake and draw the Black Hills and Missouri This work' will be alow, if well done, but pupils had as woll learn thoroughly what they do learu as to slight it. All work should be examined closely, and criticised freely by other pupils.

By insisting on descriptions being given in good language these lessons can be made valuable in that way. If you handle your pupils carefully you will find their powers of observation increasing rapidly. We have no maps of the two Dakotas and so draw them as one. Jonas. Teachers Examination.
