WE SOLICIT YOUR TRADE. Respectfully. WHERRITT WHITSITT. Wo iako tho liberty of publishing thi8eek a letter from our old townsman, J. M.

Tracy. It was not written for the public but we, know oil will he plensed to see It. Tho New urdock Herald suspended last week. The editor says he was promised flOQ subscribers when he started, and be got 88 of them I Such a deserves'nothlng but a graveyard. Comaucho eounty'salt will probably hare its share; of I the Wichita and Hutchinson packery Salt already on top the ground has nothing to fear from salt.OOOor 800 feet down.

We call the attention of our readers to the advertlseme'utheaded, "Books, Three Cents Each." A reliable Arm, and desirable books. Now Is your chance to gut good reading matter cheap. Isaac Riley, in chargo of the Santa Fe water service at Mulvane, and one of the most reliable men in the employ of the company, gives the following report from Dec. 1 to Dec. 27: 429 feet In tank after watering engines at night; pump ran 810 hours during mouth; number of engines watered, 743.

Wlchlta'is endeavoring to persuade the farmers of Sedgwick county to vote bonds for a $200,000 court house, and is meeting with about the some success Topeka'did. The present jail at Wichita is said to be "no better than a mulo barn." The farmers retort to this assertion, "Well, lot men obey the law and Keep out of it." Commonwealth. Mr. Lautz, who recontly visited his brother-in-law, AVm. Hurt, at this place, had his goods packed to move here, but is now halting between two opinions.

Mrs. Lautz is still here and likes the country, Mr Hall, another brother-in-law, is here while his wife is in Illinois, He has not yet decided whether he will return to her or have ber come to him. The Hutchinson News with its customary dishonesty accuses the Prohibi-' tionists for the non-conviction of ArenL-dorf thtflladdock assassin. Pray, who claims the credit of the Iowa prohibitory laws what party boasts of 'passing them, and then, coward-like, tries to shoulder on for the unenforced Republican legislation and unconvicted whisky murderers? A recent motion in the superior court at New sell ceitain stocks belonging to the estate of the late Robert Sproul, of British Columbia, developed a remarkable story. Sproul was the agent of an American company engaged in developing a mine.

He was charged with murder, and tho company advanced him $1,800 to defend himself, and he made over some stock to the company. He was sentenced to be hanged, and, after five respites, was executed. It lias since been proved that he was entirely innocent. Another victim of circumstantial evidence The Wichita party, who telegraphed over the country that monstrous lie about fifty or sixty people being frozen to death in western Kansas last week, ought to be prosecuted for criminal libel. Many eastern papers, while lacking the hardihood to invent such a tale, will quickly enough piint it when they have a chance.

Most of these deaths were represented as in Clark county. An Anthony gentleman, Van Lanmngham, who was blizzard-bound at Ashland, says he did not hear of a single death in that county from freezing. And the Ashland postmaster telegraphs the inme good news. Clearwater Bank. F.

EXCHANGES NOTICE That this is the last issue of the Clearwater Independent. Please discontinue X's. HE STICKS TO IT I That stupendous liar, the Belle Plaine News, claims lo know of a man down there who had twenty-four children, when he lost count. Independent. Bro.

McQuown, you are "another one," but we forgive you. We can afford to be generous to a man who impaired his health and overtaxed tis brain power in trying to Christianize dwellers on the gravel knobs of Mulvane, and is now making an effort to ameliorate the mental condition of the inhabitants of the Clearwater sandhills and the hardpan flats surrounding. To such a man we again remark, we can afford to bo generous; as we realize the fact that to such a man, with his recent past and present surroundings, the producing power of Athe valley and the prolificacy of itsfavored residents is perhaps beyond his conception. We did say we knew a man who had twenty-four children that he was.sure of before he lost count, and we stick to it. More than this, another resident on the borders of this happy valley was, when we wrote that item, close after him with twenty-three, and has since sot there in elegant shape.

Should Bro. McQuown refer to us again as a "stupendous liar," and he probably will, wo will again forgive him. As long as we conduct this great religious weekly, just so long will wo uphold the good, the true and the beautiful; and try to treat our traducers withjjthat Christian forbearance commensurate witli tho position we occupy as exponent of the above principles. Belie Plaine News. The Verdict Unanimous.

W. D. Suit, Druggist, Uippus, testifies: "1 can recommend Electric Bitters as the very best remedy. Every bottle sold has given relief in every case. One man took six bottles, and was cured of rheumatism of 10 years' standing." Abraham llaro, druggist, Beilville, ailinns; "The best, medicine I have ever handled in my 20 years' experience, is Electric Bitters." Thousands of others have added their testimony, so that the verduit is unanimous that Electric Bitters do cure all diseases of the liver, kidneys or blood.

Mr, Foster's business is that of an undertaker. If the paper does not py there he will be able to give it decent burial. In retiring we have but little to say. We are too glad to give utterance to our feelings. Our experience has been rich-worth hundreds of dollars.

Health lias come to us again, so that we do not need to continue in this business. The money necessary to run a paper, we think may be better spent siine other way these hard times. When the times get better, and the peoplo are making money, and the city booming, some one will be raised up to take our place. Until then do not encourage any one to undertake the publication of a newspaper in your city.
