The Hock Island railroad company recontly offered Wellington a propo-sition to run one of the lines it intends to build in Kansas to that city providing county bonds were voted to it. Desiring to secure the support of Conwav Springs for I ho Rock Ihuid project tho officers of tho Ft. Smith, Northwestern rotid at Wellington airreed to change the course of that rottd and run it to Conway, relinquishing the township bonds voted to it in Stimuor comity and ask for county bonds. The deal was mado notwithstanding the many promises the Ff.

Smith officers made the citizens of this oil that if they would voto them city bonds and otherwise aid the road it woulrt be certain to come he re. Our people did their part readily, but Wellington has brushed aside her promises and made this other dual. The election for the bonds for the two roads has been called for Out. 25. $145,000 is the amount to bo voted to each road.

There will bo a etronir opposition made to the voting of tho bonds in nearly all parts of the county. Mr, F. II. of Milan, was in the city Wednesday evening, and Tub Lkader scribe had a short conversation with him. "Tho bonds will never carry," said he.

"All parts of the county through which the roads do not run will vote against them and their votes will bo sufficient to defeat the propositions.
