LOCAL HAPPENINGS. Joe Turney left Thursday for parts unknown. A large amount of hay is being shipped from this market at pres-10 ent. The WA and A gave an oyster supper Thursday evening to members only. Mr and Mrs C.E Williams went to Kansas City Sunday night, returning Tudsday night.

Mr Williams took in the Implement Dealer's Convention. Williams and Hartnett shipped two cars of hogs and cattle Monday to the Kansas City market. The Ronald section gang is now helping the local force to lay the switch track to the new elevator. Jno. Legg, representative of the Ridenour-Baker Grocery made a business trip to this city Wednesday.

Frank Miner shipped a car of sheep and goats to Kansas City Tuesday and had the misfortune to lose three of them before reachMing Hepler and a number of others before they arrived at their destination. S. P. Dorsett loaded his furniture and other belongings on an emigrant car Tuesday preparatory to his departure Wednesday for his new location at Wappello, Wash. Wilson Turney received a severe injury on the head and two of his dingers while shoeing a horse for Herman Rocske Friday.

He is still in a semi conscious condition at this writing. Dempsey, of Kansas City, started for her home Friday after a short visit with her brother, Robert Frieadman, and other relatives in this vicinity. A. M. Routh, formerly in the mercantile business here and later in the real estate business at Mont rose, but now located at Baldwin, this state, spent several days the first of the week shak ing hands with old friends and attending to business interests.

Our efficient agent, F. J. Sheowalter. assures us that the entire platform at the M. K.

T. depot will soon be paved with brick which is badly needed. Chas. Barton, residing near Pawnee, met with a serious accident Tuesday while shredding corn fodder. His left arm was caught in the shredder and so badly injured that it had to be amputated about four inches above the elbow.

Drs. Robinson and Craw. ford and Chas Yager performed the operation. Simons and Elder Tuttle, who have been on an extensive trip 1 to Southern Texas, have returned. Mr.

Simons while there purchasee 160 acres of land. Mr Tuttle says while he was in San Antonia he met Fred Horniday who was formerly the cashier of the First National Bank of Ft Scott and who was acting in that capacity when the bank failed. He is now aqle to buy and sell fine automobiles and live in luxury. Mr Tuttle thinks that the Chinese remedy for dishonest bank cashiers would do some of us some good. Their remedy is Sunlight.

Stubbs will Enforce Prohibitory Law. The authorities of Crawford county must either enforce the prohibitory law there or Governor Stubbs will call upon them publically to resign their offices. This declaration was made by the governor to Sheriff Merriweather of that county today. Governor Stubbs informed the sheriff that he would send a company of militia down there if necessary to stamp out the sale of liquor. The county attorney will be the next offcial summoned to the carpet.

Hugh Reeder is spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hiatt.

Clate McClelland is guilty of horse trading again, quite a serious offense this time, traded a mule for two horses they say. Mrs. Lawrence Hiatt of Omaha Neb. spending the holidays with her parents Mr. and Mrs.

D. Robinson. John Dearing bas rentep the Hazel Davis farm for the coming year. Mrs. Hiram Wray and sister Miss Linnet Davis returned Monday from a two weeks visit with relatives and friends near Lake City Iowa.

They report having had a very pleasant time but say the weather seemed very cold up there. The ground was covered fifteen inches beep with snow most of the time. Mrs. Daisy Oliphant is visiting friends and relitives at Richmond Iowa. In the meantime her hushand is chasing the festive cottontail to his hearts content.

Townsend of Nemaha Iowa is visiting Mrs. Galbraith and Mrs Wauren Wortmans, this week. Dick Elledge formerly of this place but now of Garden City, a brother of Curt Elledge, spent holidays renewing old acquaintances and visiting his brother and his sister Mrs. Budd Neil. F.

D. Steele bought a fine young span of mules from Mm. Kidney this week. Al Shaullus and. mother left Tuesday afternoon for their home at Oklahoma City Okla.

Mrs. C. W. Thompson repeived a fine piano from her husband for a Christmas present. Mr.

Austin of Jacksonvill Ill. was here this week looking after the property of the late Nimrotd Sharp, Mr. Jackson is a son-inlaw of Mr. Sharp. HEPLER ITEMS.

Mrs. G. J. Burns and children, of Ronald, visited relatives in Hepler the first of the week. Mr.

and Mrs. John Minor visited Mr. and Mrs. Walter Minor the first of the week. Mrs.

Gaylord and Mrs. Kendall who have both been quite sick are solwly improving. Johnson doctor in BourDiseases of Wo- Dr. Tinder, of Girard, made a professional visit to this city the latter part of last week. Miss Edna McBride visited her Mrs.

L. A. Noland is again In charge of her studio and solicites the paaronage ot her friends. aunt, Mrs. S.

Genue and Sunday. W. Gentle visited friends at St. Paul the latter part of last week. Mrs.

Bennett visited Mr. and Mrs. Bennett a few days last week. C. Curry and wife visited Mr.

and Mrs. C. Selle near. Brazilton Sunday, it being Grandpa Thonhoff's birthday, all of his children gathered there in honor of the occasion. Little Mariece Curry is visiting relatives in Hepler.

Real estate is fast changing hands near Hepler. Several deals have been made within the past two weeks. Mrs. Enloe has returned from a trip to Girard. The young folks are indulging in parties of late.

Several have been had in the past week and invitations are out for more in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. M. Meisenheimer have sent out inyitations for the marriage of there daughter, Evangeline Mae to Mr.

Leonidas H. Pape. The wedding will take place at Sunnyside, four miles north of Hepler. Monday edening, Jan. 17, at six thirty o'clock.

WALNUT ITEMS. M. H. Morrison has purchased a blacksmith shop in Girard, and he and his family went to that city last week. He is a good workman and we wish him success in his new location.

The Epworth League society was entertained at the home of George Jones north of this city last Friday evening. Clifford and Rebecca Baily were the guests of henor on this occasion as they with their mother, left Saturday morning for Illinois. The Modern Woodmen and Royal Neighbor lodges gave their annual oyster and general supper at their hall Wednesday evening. On account of the inclement weather seyeral of the members were unable to be present but a fine time was enjoyed by all who attended..
