MILTON PHILIPPI, P. G. S. Past Great Sachem Milton Philippi, of the Great Co- uncil of Kansas, passed away at his home in Kansas City Feb. 20, iysV.

after a lingering illness from cancer of the throat. Although suffering greatly during his illness, Brother Philippi was always cheerful and pleased to see the many constantly calling to cheer him. His sick chamber was a veritable bower of growing plants and cut flowers sent him by the various tribes and councils in the reservation of Kansas. Brother Philippi was born in Rockwood, on May 29, 1854, and came to Kansas in 1883 where on December 25, 1886, he was married to Henrietta Arnold, who survives him. He became a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1889, and the Ancient Order of The following officers were elected: President, Winnie Henderson of N.

Topeka; 1st Vice Pres-iuent, Mrs. Nora Grover of Holton; 2d Vice President, Mrs. W. F. Gabler of Scranton; Past President, Mrs.

Mary Sipes of Topeka; Secretary, Mrs. Ella Sipes Rooney of Topeka; Treasurer, Mrs. D. C. Wakeman of Scranton.

The next annual meeting will be held at Holton Feb. 22, 1923 in conjunction with the Red Men. A telegram of condolence was sent to the family of Chief Philippi P. G. S.

of Kansas City whose death was reported to the convention. The Fourth District Imp'd O. R. M. opened at 2:30 p.

m. at tne Red Men's hall. Phil Rooney, President, in the chair. Every District officer and 150 members were present including Past Great Incohonee Bird, Great Sachem W. F.

Gabler and many other great and past great officers. Good of the order speeches consumed the greater part of the time and the next convention meeting will be held a 'year from date at Holton, Kansas, with 'the following officers: Pres. J. E. R. Mischke. among the pallbearers for the Improved Order of Red Men. The sympathies of the entire membership of the Improved Order of Red Men are extended to his sorrowing widow in this, the hour of her 'great bereavement. united workmen in 1890.

He connected Jiimself with the Improved Order of Red Men in 1892 being a member of all of these organizations at the time of his decease. He has been in the employ of the Rock Island Railroad for thirty-six years. After passing through the chairs in Cheyenne Tribe No. 19, in 1899 Brother Philippi became Chief of Records of the tribe, serving in that capacity for some time. He was also elected representative to the Great Council of Kansas in 1900.

In 1902 he was Great Sannap, in 1904, 1905 1906 Great Trustee, and was elected Great Junior Sagamore in 1911, becoming Great Sachem in 1913. He became a member of the G. C. U. S.

at its sessions held In 1914, as a representative from the Great Council of Kansas, and from that time on has attended many sessions of the national body. Brother Philippi was laid to rest on February 23rd, with services at the Central M. E. Church, of which he had been a faithful and active member since 1908. The I Ntiful rites of the Improved Order of Rtu Men were rendered at the grave, made more impressive to the multitude of brothers and members of the Degree of Pocahontas, and other organizations of which he was a member, by the love and personal regard of the members of his tribe, Cheyenne No.

Louis Carnahan, Holton. Clifton, Kansas, was added to the Fourth District. The Scranton band serenaded both conventions at the close with several national and popular airs. A delicious banquet was served to about 400 members from five to eight p. m.

following the address of welcome by C. F. Mayor of Scranton. White Fawn Council No. 77, opened at p.

m. and a class of 13 candidates was initiated by the Holton degree team. At 9:30 the Red Men degree work was put on by Horton, Holton and Scranton, 1st, 2nd and 3rd degrees respectively. A class of 21 candidates was taught the mysteries. The degree work was followed by a great meeting at which the program included team work, tableaux and speeches by Great Sachem F.

John Bright was song leader. Dancing concluded the program at 4 a. m. TWIN CONVENTION OF FOURTH DIS- TRICT The convention of the ladies of the Degree of Pocahontas met in the K. of P.

Hall in Scranton February 22, for the purpose of organizing the Fourth District of the Degree of Pocahontas, Improved Order of Red Men. The District comprises White Fawn Council No. 7, Scranton; Kansas Council No. Osage City; Minewa Council No. 1, Topeka; Council No.

53, North Topeka; Council -No. 6, Holton; Council No. 77, North Topeka; Wild Rose Council No. 15, Horton. The meeting was called to order by Mrs.

Mary A. Sipes, Past Great Pocahontas, of Topeka. Miss Mary Duff, Great Pocahontas, of Weir, was elected chairman and Mrs. Ella Slpes Rooney, of Topeka, 7 i Tv 1 i.
