Mr. Conner ie making a specialty of tho fruit business now, he is receiving choice apples every day, which he is pedling through the oountry.

It won't be many years till our farmers will have apple of their own production, till thon wo must depend on the eastern portion of our State for apples. It is only for the time being though. Pottawatomie's much nominated man is in for it again, just bocause be is good natured, aud has over been on the side of tho week, they have taken advantage ofbisgeaor-ous disposition, and uaddloi the empty honors of a place on. the greenback ticket at Top ok a when they know thore is not a ghost of a show for him or bis party. John Thomas, our very popular merchant, returned from his visit to Wisconsin last Friday evening.

He was around shaking hands with his numorous friends Saturday and looking ever so happy. He roports that he saw some very pleasant towns while away, but none to compare with Garrison, tho pride of Pottawatomie, and the gem of the Blue Valley. A gentleman from Onaa reports that they a suppor and boe-down in that town a low nights sine, the proceeds of which will bo used to fix up a oemetery, wherein to bury their dead. He further remarks that they never pass the bat around to raise money for the preacher in Onaga, but at the end of the qu rter they give a hop, and tho preachor gels his pay. Their trade is growing rapidly and assuming large proportions.

Mr. Shaw, one of the bost the oounty, is putting in the shb'ying and counters, and to say that tbo work is nice but foebly expresses it. The store is 82x24 ieet: it has livioe.tooms with a nine foot room for storago, and a cellar twenty-lour feet square. There is but one store building in tbo oounty that is finer, larger or better looated than that of Mr.

Charley told our reporter that bo iuteuded that boy should punch ticucts, Kind Words. We thank many Iriends for kind words of choer and patronage wilh which we are already grootod in our effort to build up a newspaper in the Blue Valley.

There is hardly an evening but what we hear some one ask the question why do you not have some street lamps. Of a dark evening the town looks gloomy without street lamps, while unwary travelers aro in danger of breaking their limbs.

Who will put up the first lamp. There should be one in front of every store, at the hotel and at tho depot. Who'l be the first, Our Livery Men. We took a walk through the splendid livery barn and stables of tbe Messrs. Eckard House, one day last week, and wore surprised to find bo complete an establishment as this firm have, They have a splendid line of top buggies and family carriages, besides spring wagons, single rigs, transfer wagons, etc.

Their horses are in in fine trim and good roadsters, and in sufficient numbers that they can have a team in good trim for a long trip on short notice. Their prices-are liberal and a man can indulge in a buggy ride by patronizing these gontlemen without paying a sum approxima ting the value of the outfit. They receiving that patronage that rewards merit everywhere. Our Church. Maj.

In the north part of Garrison is built quite a little town by itsolf, which has been called on account of the land belonging to Reverent Knipe, Kuipetown." It con'ains one blacksmith shop, one storo, ono billiard ball and saloon, one first class restaurant and boarding bouso and a lunch establishment, and i will in ull probability have a firsl class livery feed aud Bale stablo in a few days.

But what we wish lo speak about is the disposition on tb part of a large majority of its citi zons to change tbe name from Knipetovrn to Smithville, Bmilhport, Sroilhburg, Smithtown or Smith-haven. Tbey had a'meeting on Smilh avenue the other evening to discus the matter, and see what could bo done in the matter, when Mr. Peter Smith was called to the curbslono to preside. When tbe meeting was called to order, and tbe business of the evening was explained in a well limed speech by the president, setting forth tho claims that the Smiths had the honor of having this addition called by some title that should comprehond and be patronymio to tboir great name, (loud cheers) and now, said the speaker is tbe time to aot, while we are in the majority whereupon the blacksmith arose and said, Mr-President, but was hissed down, and it soon became apparent that no one whose father was not known as Smith, would bo allowed to vote, so those who were not named Smith retired On motion it was decided to oall this part of tbe city Smith-town, when on motion of Smth jr the name was made unanimous. They all adjourned to Dietz to christian it.

New Arrivala. Our citizens wore surprised one day last weok to see Garrison a large colony from the east, who were simply going toward the setting sun, having no particular plaoe in view, bnt resolving to stop at any point that should promise hm good ft-orfortb! homes. They were foreigners, and none of thorn spoke our language. Messrs. Finuf and Chiloote waited on the colony, and after a short interview wherein Mr.
