I saw liim there Tuesday Hugh O'Hara, of Frontenac. He was incarcerated early Monday morning for a period of four years. A son and a daughter were committed with him. Close confinement is their portion. It does look odd to see a Democrat inside a post office looking out and the Republicans outside looking in.

But they are doing that at Frontenac now. 0'IIara, by the way, is the father of sixteen children, twelve of them living. He ought to have had a post office long ago. II. F.

Some time ago the "Girard Press" put out the claim that the credit for about all the good laws enacted by the 1913, legisla-lature belonged to certain Republicans. Most of the Republicans named happened to be stand-patters of very high de gree. This claim is positively amusing, in view of the fact that although Governor Hodges and other Democratic members of preceding legislatures were actually responsible for about all the progressive laws enacted by those legislatures, our Republican friends have persistently refused to allow them any credit in the matter. The prexs bureau will be more liberal. When the Bull Moose press was criticising Governor Hodges for appointing standpatters to office, the press bureau said, among other things, that he did so because the administration had been materially assisted in passing progressive measures by these very stand-patters.

This statement was ridiculed in certain quar ters, but it was true nevertheless, and the Girard paper's article was copied with approval in a Topeka paper which had previously scouted the idea that the stand -patters had been responsible for anything good in the way of legislation. The Press" mentioned Senator Wilson of Washington county in connection with the Automobile License Tax law; Seeretary of State Sessions in connection with the Corporation Tax law; Auditor Davis in connection with the Sand Tax law; Senator Mahin and John Dawson in connection with the Mahin law. The press bureau concedes to these gentlemen their full share of praise for these laws, but if they had not been made administration measures by Governor Hodges, they would not now be on the statute book. Th 3 Democrats had a majority in both houses, and if the Stubbs administration was entitled to credit for the progressive laws which the Democrats helped make, the Hodges admiaistrat-ion is entitled to the credit for those good laws which our stand-pat Republioan friends helped to make, S.
